On October 25, actress Mylene Dizon shared her thoughts on the relevance of her role as a journalist in the miracle-inspirational drama Huwag Kang Mangamba.
Dizon said she represented the side of a journalist who is always seeking the truth.
“Not just right now, lagi namang relevant ang mga journalist. I represented media. Kasi di ba sa kwento mapapansin ninyo, may nagre-represent ng politics, may nagre-represent ng church, ako naman ‘yung nagre-represent ng media. And yes as a journalist, we are always seeking, not just for a story to tell, but for the truth in things that are happening around us.”
She also considered journalists as investigators that show both sides of the story.
“Kasi tayo kumbaga ‘yung imbestigador para sa tao. Para maintindihan nila kung ano ba ‘yung sides, ‘yung kwento sa dalawang sides ng coin. Hindi naman kasi lagi pwede maging one-sided kasi that’s not proper journalism.”
Dizon then noted the relevance of journalists in the current situation of the country, especially at a time when there is so much fake news going around.
“It’s relevant now. It’s always relevant, especially now when we are–the country is in this situation. I needed to represent this journalist very well and as fair as I can be kasi ganon natin dapat makita ang mga journalist na katulad ninyo. Dapat wala tayong kinikilingan, di ba?
“Right now, it’s very/ difficult to be fair because maraming hindi balensyado, maraming fake news. So it’s quite a challenge to be believable, dependent, dependable, timely, credible.”
She then thanked everyone who appreciated her portrayal of Eva Marquez in Huwag Kang Mangamba, noting that she’s in it for the craft.
“Kadalasan hindi naman namin hinahanap ‘yung pagiging bida eh, ‘yung importante sa amin kung ano ba ‘yung role at kung paano namin magagampanan ng maayos. I think that’s the main job description namin bilang artista.
“Ako naman, personally, hindi naman ako star. I’m not in it for–I’m in it for the craft, and that makes me feel good that I am able to represent it well. And I’m very, very happy that pinapasalamatan ninyo ako that you guys appreciate the work that I did.”
As for her return to ABS-CBN, Dizon expressed her gratitude for landing a role amid the pandemic and the Network’s shutdown.
“But ‘yung pagbabalik sa panahon na ito na nandito sa sitwasyon na ito ang ABS[-CBN], you’re just happy that we are all still working. Na kahit papaano we are trying our best na makagawa pa rin ng magagandang shows para maipakita sa mga tao.
“And to create stories na may magagandang message. Hindi lang basta kwento, pero may message na may mapupulot.”
As for the series, watch Dizon together with the series leads Andrea Brillantes and Francine Diaz in its remaining three weeks on air. Huwag Kang Mangamba: The Healing Finale, available on Kapamilya Channel, TV5, Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, TFC, WeTV, and iflix.
