When news that “Pangako Sa Yo” will be remake with Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla playing the roles of Yna Macaspac and Angelo Buenavista respectively, people had mixed reactions.

KathNiel fans were happy that the love team would finally have a vehicle to showcase their talents in a more mature way, while some were excited to see the remake of “Pangako Sa Yo” after 14 years.

The reactions were varied that fans even made a petition to stop the remake since some believed that this would ruin the legacy left by the original series.

After almost nine months on the air, the new “Pangako Sa Yo” proved disbelievers wrong, pleasing old and new fans alike.

The original “Pangako Sa ‘Yo” is the first teleserye that made Pinoy viewers tune in to their TV sets every week night from November 13, 2000 to September 20, 2002. It has the highest rated finale episode for any Filipino TV series with an all-time high rating of 64.9%.

“Pangako Sa Yo” 2015 is loosely based on the original series and was updated to reflect modern times. Wikipedia said the 2015 remake had its highest rating of 39.7% on August 19, 2015 (the episode where Yna and Amor first met). The remake set a new record with one million tweets on Twitter.  Notable episodes were Amor’s “batas ng api” scene, Yna and Angelo’s first kiss, the return of Amor Powers to the Philippines, and the revelation to Eduardo that Amor was indeed raped by his brother Diego.

Although both the original and the remake tells of the great love story that revolves around Yna, Angelo, Eduardo, Amor, and Claudia, whose lives intertwine because of love, vengeance, deprivation, and influence, there are differences between the original series and the remake that we listed.
