Does Carla Abellana have the strength to forgive her partner if in case he cheats on her?
Apparently, she can.
In a mediacon for her upcoming Kapuso teleserye To Have and To Hold on Tuesday, September 21, the actress knows for sure she can forgive her husband if, at some point, he decides to cheat on her.
“Ako yes definitely,” she answered.
Abellana knows it is not easy to forgive someone who committed such grave sin but admitted it is part of life—to be cheated on at some point.
“Hindi naman madali ‘yan for sure na magpatawad ‘pag nagloko ang asawa. Pero parte iyan ng buhay. Lagi ko ngang sinasabi ‘si Lord nga nagpatawad paano pa tayo?'”
But because she can give a second chance does not equate it to having it be repeated over and over again.
“But that shouldn’t be din naman na go signal or an excuse na aabusuhin ng partner mo na ‘okay lang ‘yan mapapatawad ‘yan for sure, gawin na natin’ hindi naman din dapat gano’n. Pero para mabuo ka bilang tao at maging masaya ka, eh kailangan mo ring magpatawad ng iba.”
Giving a second chance also meant unconditional love for Abellana who is about to get married to Tom Rodriguez in October, though her answer is not in any way related to her relationship with her soon-to-be husband.
“Unconditional love, of course, definitely unconditional love.”
She then reiterated that repeatedly allowing someone to cheat is eventually being a martyr.
“But sa totoo lang, I mean siguro naman it shouldn’t be obvious that when the love of your life commits the same mistake over and over and over again, and you in turn, keep on forgiving over and over and over again, it comes to a point na nagiging martyr ka na. Napakadali para sa atin lalo na mga Filipino na maglagay ng label na ‘ay martyr ka na.'”
However, the actress believes being able to forgive the husband is unconditional love because marriage is sacred.
“But then, I’d like to believe that it is unconditional love most especially because we are committed to each other, hindi lang in paper, but like… personally with the Catholic, in front of God. So with me kasi, you will do anything and everything to save the marriage din.”
Still, the husband has to make amends after committing such atrocity.
“Oo naman, kasi once ka nagpatawad, the real work comes after the forgiveness. Hindi naman ‘yan na ‘porke’t napatawad na ako ng asawa ko okay na ‘yan.’
“No, the real work has to be after that na kailangan talaga na may change, may sacrifice, may adjustment talaga na gagawin yung nagka-affair.”
The actress relates her answers from To Have and To Hold, which is about infidelity. She is joined by Max Collins and Rocco Nacino in the series directed by Don Michael Perez.
It will premiere on September 27 as part of GMA Network’s Telebabad lineup.
