“Darna” is a popular Pinoy superhero that has been featured in numerous movies and hit on TV series. Due to public demand, the remake of “Darna” movie is all set for shooting and the only thing missing is the actress who will play the title role.
Star Cinema is eyeing on Angel Locsin to play “Darna” on its latest installation for 2016 since last year, but in her previous interviews Angel says no to “Darna”. She reasoned out that her back injury prevents her from doing the physically challenging role of “Darna”. She also added that she is still in the process of recuperation through continuous therapy sessions.
Angel just finished shooting for her latest movie “Everything About Her” which would be her first movie for the year and would rather take it slow for her upcoming projects. With regards to her Pinoy superhero character, Angel Locsin turns down “Darna” role.
The beautiful actress who is known for her impressive roles on GMA Network’s “Mulawin” and her iconic portrayal of “Darna” in a TV series last 2009, once again reaffirms that she decided not to play the Darna role.
In preparation for this Star Cinema movie which will be directed by Erik Matti, Angel Locsin spent some time in training which included stunts that left her with a grueling back injury which she said she still has to deal with at present.
Angel Locsin prioritized her health than push herself to the limit. According to a published article in Bandera she admitted that she genuinely like to do the “Darna” movie but her main concern is to recuperate from her spine injury and eventually recover completely.
At the “Everything About Her” press conference she stated that she will not be closing any door for the opportunity to play Darna.
“Naku po, ako po talaga, nakita niyo naman po ang interview ko po sa Abunda Tonight. Noong sinabi ko po na hindi po ako magda-Darna? ako po kasi, nagpapagaling pa po. Not for anything else, kung sakali, kung sakali po, tingnan natin. Kasi kailangan healthy lang po ako, gusto kong magka-baby sa future rin,” (Oh my, you’ve seen my interview on the Abunda Tonight show. The time when I said that I won’t be doing the Darna role? It is because I am still recovering and not for anything else. If ever, let’s see. What is important is that I become healthy, I want to have a baby in the future) Angel explained.
When asked about the public survey regarding who should play Darna wherein she came out as the number one choice for the title role, Angel Locsin responded, “Ako raw po ba? Kinikilig ako kasi alam niyo pong mahal ko po talaga ang project”. (Is it really me? I am flattered because you know that I really love the project.)
Even if Angel turns down Darna, she is still excited to do the project in the near future. For now, she is still recovering on her spine surgery and in order to be back on her old self; she needed enough time for therapy.
