In a recent interview with The Juans on YouTube–James Reid shared why he took a step back from acting and focused on creating music instead.
Reid has made a big name on both the television and the big screen in the past years. He had blockbuster movies and top-rating TV shows.
Lately, he has not done any acting projects for quite some time now.
“What I did crave was artistic expression. I didn’t want people to recognize me for my name or my fame. It was for the things that I did or that I created myself,” he confessed he wanted another medium to express his creativity, and it was through making music that he got to establish his true identity.
The actor admitted that it was tough for him to leave what he has established in his career in acting, but for him, it felt like he was going circles and not living his true potential.
He wanted to release his creative self, and it was through music that he was able to do so.
“I love acting. But sometimes after doing teleserye after teleserye, it gets repetitive and I felt like kind of robotic. I craved something that came from me, that I can really express. I was just following instructions. It wasn’t feeding my soul.
“It was difficult for me to step away from all of that because I was in a very good place. But I stepped away from doing that and I chose something more difficult, which is something that I still had to grow in making music and production, writing songs,” he shared.
Reid was hailed the Big Winner of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash 2010.
After the reality show, he ventured into acting where he got the lead role and paired with Nadine Lustre and starred in movies like Diary ng Panget (2014), Talk Back and You’re Dead (2014), Para sa Hopeless Romantic (2015), This Time (2016) and Never Not Love You (2018).
in 2017, he released his first studio album titled Palm Dreams.
