Asia’s Phoenix Morissette Amon revealed she is finally being recognized by her merits, rather than a copycat of Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo and Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
During the official press launch for Shine’s 25th anniversary via Zoom, Asia’s Phoenix got asked if people still compare her to both Geronimo and Velasquez.
The singer stressed that she’s starting to have her name in the music industry.
“I think little by little. I’m proud naman to say an medyo nakagawa na ako ng sarili kong sound. Nakagawa na ako ng sarili kong experiences I’m able to build where I am lang din ngayon.”
When Amon was starting, her musical influences are Sarah Geronimo and Regine Velasquez. These two, she will be eternally grateful.
“Pero, I will never be not grateful sa mga musical influences ko. Being able to work with Miss Reg and even si Tito Martin, Tito Gary dito sa ASAP and being coach kay Ate Sarah.
“Parang it’s very humbling lang to be able… syempre ang daming magagaling na mga singers talaga dito sa Pilipinas, pero I’m very grateful na I’m still here.”
Being compared to Sarah Geronimo and Regine Velasquez is not new to her. In an interview in 2016, she doesn’t mind if people compare her to Geronimo, who was also her mentor on Season One of The Voice of the Philippines.
As of now, the singer is grateful that people want to hear more of her singing even during this pandemic.
“Pinapakinggan parin ako ng mga tao even after ‘Akin ka nalang’ and so many people are so hungry to hear more. Mas excited pa ako ngayon dahil masyado pang madaming pwedeng gawin.
“Maraming hinde nangyari pero maraming pwede pang mangyari talaga through Internet. So many people can collaborate. Yung mga ganun… So I’m just really really excited. Kase It’s all just perspective.”
Currently, Morissette Amon is preparing to perform a new version of Shine to commemorate the song’s 25th anniversary.
From Ima Castro to Regine Velasquez, it is Morissette Amon’s turn to carry on the legacy of Trina Belamide’s iconic song Shine.
The song gets a new arrangement this time thanks to ABS CBN’s creative music director Jonathan Manalo.
