Cherry Pie Picache’s son Jose Antonio Tria whose screen name is Nio Tria has shifted from being a tennis player to becoming an actor.
From being a tennis star, Nio has a promising career upon entering showbiz. The 18-year-old has a knack for acting.
“Nung start kasi may interest ako na umakting at maging part ng showbiz,” revealed Nio during Squad Plus’s virtual press conference on Monday, April 26.
However, with his tennis career being at its highest, Nio took one step at a time. He put all his attention on the sport and disregard his other passion, which is acting.
“Pero hindi ko lang napursue yung passion na yun dahil sa tennis ko. Marami akong tournaments and training na kailangang puntuhan. So pinrioritize ko muna yun,” admitted the aspiring actor.
Fortunately, amid the pandemic, and with the sport being unavailable, Nio finally got his chance to try the industry his mom is currently active with.
While being affected by the lockdowns and the quarantines, Nio joined the Squad Plus, giving him the chance to finally pursue acting.
“Eventually nung nagkaron ng pandemic, alam kong mahirap na times yun para sa lahat. Pero nagkaron ng blessing in disguise na maging part ng Squad Plus. And I’m thankful that I get to pursue that now.”
Now that he has entered the industry, his mom is supportive of him. Nio revealed that his mother is hands-on when it comes to his aspirations in life.
“Ever since naman supportive yung mom ko. Sa tennis career ko and now sa acting career, very on-hands po as a mom kahit na busy sya sa trabaho niya.”
Nio also expressed his gratefulness toward his mother who is always there to support him.
“Very grateful ako and very blessed na siya ang mom ko. Sobrang matulungin siya sa career ko ngayon.”
Aside from acting, Nio is hoping that he can showcase his talent in singing and playing the guitar.
“Mahilig din akong kumanta and mag-gitara. Hopefully mapaghusayan ko yun at mapakita ko yung talent na yun.”
Before entering showbiz, Nio is ranked no. 200 on the global tennis list and no. two in the Philippines, in which he was even coined as a tennis prodigy.
In 2016, at a very young age, he became a tennis champion after he competed at the 2016 International Tennis Federation (ITF) competition in Vietnam where he won in the under 14 doubles category.
With him entering showbiz, people will expect that Nio will show the same mindset. i
“Siguro sa tennis, yung maapply ko na lang yung discipline ko sa sport. Syempre madami din akong natutunan sa tennis like discipline and perseverance,” said Nio.
