The Barretto family is one of the most controversial families in the Philippine entertainment industry, and that’s where the lineage of actress Julia Barretto.
Julia Barretto has not yet given her answer to the question “Who is her favorite Tita [between Gretchen and Claudine]?”
Not until April 2021, Julia was invited to a podcast interview on Spotify. She was the guest for the Gabi ng Bading Episode 12.
AC, one of the hosts of Gabi ng Bading asked Julia about how she felt about Netizens complimenting her acting skills. AC called her the ‘Young Claudine’ for her versatile acting skills.
On the said episode, Julia Barretto admits, “I loved getting that compliment or that comment because I genuinely am a fan.
“I saw how hardworking she was and committed to her craft so aside from her being my aunt, I am such a huge fan.
“As a kid and they will call me that, and I saw how she work, I am so happy taking the compliment. Masayang masaya ako.”
The compliment made her happy, perhaps she insinuated that it may be her role as young Claudine in Walang Kapalit that made them see as the younger version of her aunt.
Julia, a 24-year-old actress-model, is the famous daughter of celebrities–Marjorie Barretto and Dennis Padilla. She was mostly known for her starring role of Mira Amarillo in the ABS-CBN’s fantasy series Mirabella in 2014. She started her career and followed her parents’ footsteps in acting in 2006 as she played Isabelle in the Philippine radio-television serye Gulong ng Palad.
As a child, Julia’s fame rose after she played one of the lead roles in ABS-CBN’s primetime teleserye Kokey in 2007. Many found Julia as charming and adorable. Her potential in acting was also seen at a very young age. She has appeared in several TV series like Palos, Wansapanataym: Bokbok, Ang Batang Mapanubok, Wansapanataym: Petrang Paminta, Maalaala Mo Kaya: Diary, Maalaala Mo Kaya: Bracelet, and Wansapanataym: Wish Upon A Lusis.
Both her surnames and her acting skills made a huge mark on the Philippine film industry. Her first appearance in the movies was when she got the chance to portray the role of Maria Kristina Lapuz in a teen romance Para sa Hopeless Romantic in 2015. She then received good feedback after she played the role of Patricia Valdez in the Philippine melodrama And I Love You So from the year 2015 to 2016.
In 2016, she played the role of Kath Gonzales in the film drama Vince, Kath, and James together with Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonte. The said movie unexpectedly won the Best Picture in MMFF Awards in 2016. She also top-billed in movies Love You To The Stars and Back, I Love You Hater, Block Z, and Between Maybes.
Within her 14 years acting career, Julia has already won 22 awards. Her hardships and effort really paid off.
On August 13, 2018, Julia expressed her feelings toward leaving behind the shadows of her aunts and her parents.
“Pero I only hope that someday I will be able to make a name for myself, and I will be recognized for my work and not my last name,” she stated during the press con proper of her project Ngayon at Kailanman.
She also emphasized that she cannot choose between her aunts, Gretchen and Claudine, as she loves them equally despite the feud that their family has.
To recall, Netizens called the Barrettos–The Filipino Version of The Kardashians for its unending family feud.
In 2004, one of the earliest rifts between the Barrettos was reported. Gretchen fought with Marjorie and her latter’s then-husband, Dennis. Claudine said that the family took the side of Dennis. Gretchen did not attend the wedding of Claudine and Raymart Santiago.
In 2007, Gretchen and Claudine were supposed to work together in a GMA-7 teleserye. However, the teleserye got canceled and Claudine signed a contract with GMA-7.
In 2010, during a press conference, Gretchen allegedly walked out after being compared with her sister. A year after, Claudine and Gretchen got their reconciliation after the two accidentally met at their mother’s condominium unit.
In 2013, the Barrettos and the entire family got dragged into the worst fight that they could ever engage in. The social media burnt as Gretchen and Marjorie teamed up against Julia’s basher.
Julia, at that time, was starting as a Star Magic Talent.
Shortly after the Internet fight, on April 24, 2013, their mother Inday, wrote an open letter to Gretchen.
Inday called Gretchen a liar for calling Claudine ‘violent’ and that it was Claudine’s work to bash Julia.
In October, the same year, Gretchen backed Raymart’s testimony against Claudine for using drugs and that her youngest sister got hospitalized. Two months after, Gretchen testified against Claudine during the legal battle against Raymart.
In January 2014, their mother Inday and Claudine filed a case against Gretchen. A year after, Claudine and Marjorie got reconciled during the debut of Julia in March.
On October 16, 2019, during the wake of their father Miguel, Gretchen Barretto attended and tried to make amends with her mother. However, the night did not go well.
The feud worsen when Gretchen chose to side Bea Alonzo than her niece, Julia, when Gerald Anderson allegedly cheated on his relationship with Bea. Julia was involved and was blamed as the third party.
