Scottish musician Martin Leary delivers rock and roll charm on his latest track “Watch The Sun Burn Your Eyes”. Guitar lead and extremely memorable, it drops Feb 19th.
Working alongside Gregor McPhie, the production on the track is slick and lush. Distorted guitars drive it along over drums and bass, with catchy guitar licks breaking up the verses and a strong solo to build to the final chorus. Leary’s lead vocals glide melodically over the top, enigmatic and cool.
“The songs about the frustrations of modern day life,” explains Leary, “finding ‘real love’ right now, especially in lockdown, is going on dating apps – to me that filtered cv dating is brutal.” He also explains the lead line “has lots of meanings: you’re desperately looking for hope so long it hurts? Perhaps the future’s so bright you can’t take it? Or you’re prepared to take the pain in hope for better?” He leaves it up to the listener for their own interpretation of the lyrics, but the quality and musicality of the track is certainly not up for debate.
Leary himself is a Scottish indie artist living in Glasgow, in the mold of rockers like Oasis or The Verve. He’s already had success releasing multiple tracks with two EPs under his belt, the latter receiving thousands of streams as well as a Weekender Magazine award shortlisting for ‘Sleeps Alone’. Leary’s musical ascent has very much already begun, and “Watch The Sun Burn Your Eyes” is sure to help continue that through 2021 and beyond.
