NEW YORK, NY (February 2021) – Rising singer-songwriter Sarah Barrios today releases her brand-new track, “Happy,” the lead single from the accompanying Conversations With Myself EP. Listen now and watch the official music video for “Happy” here, available via Arista Records / Visionary Records.
Conversations With Myself showcases Barrios’ unfiltered vulnerability coupled with dreamy pop perfection. More specifically, “Happy” explores Barrios’ feelings upon coming out to her friends and family. She says, “I had spent so many years feeling anxious and scared, that when I came out, happiness felt foreign and kind of undeserved because I still felt like I didn’t know who I was. This song is a reminder that even if you haven’t figured out your life or who you are, it is okay to be happy.”
Barrios’ sophomore EP also features previous tracks “Bedroom Floor Feelings” featuring Marc E. Bassy from 2AM Club, “Help” ft. RENCE, and “Somebody I’m Proud Of.” “Help” was praised by Earmilk as an “anthem for those who might feel a little lost in the world right now,” and “Somebody I’m Proud Of” was included on Refinery29’s “New Music To Know” roundup. Ladygunn said, “With such honest lyrics, [Barrios] makes it feel as though you are listening in on some of her own most personal bedroom floor feelings, experiencing all the emotion that comes with them.”
Last year, Barrios released her debut EP Letters I Never Sent. The EP was critically praised by Clash Magazine and The Line of Best Fit, and Notion Magazine, who lauded Sarah for being “raw and vulnerable.”
Growing up in Torrington, Connecticut, as part of a musical household, Barrios’ journey to becoming an artist shouldn’t be surprising, but like many young music lovers the idea of doing this as a job seems impossible, at first. Turning her talent from songwriting into hits for other artists paid off and now she’s living out her dream, doing it for herself.
