Exciting genre-defying quartet Phantom Phunk release old-school hip-hop smash ‘Wound Up’. Featuring rapper C.I.D, the track drops on January 22nd, with a superb video dropping on the 29th.
With a vintage sound and live instrumentation, the song is built on heavy drums, bass and trumpets. Plucked guitars and ambient synth create a rich soundscape as C.I.D and Phantom Phunk spit through the texture. The clever chorus vocals are catchy and work well with the verse structures and witty rhymes.
The group explains that this track is about “working through the tension that surrounds us,” something every one of us can relate to.
Though this track is in keeping with old-school hip-hop’s impressive lineage, Phantom Phunk’s music is hard to pin down, with elements from Indie as well as all Urban genres incorporated in. Based in Tampa, Florida, they are experimental and, having extensively toured the East Coast, are sure to be an exhilarating live performance when it’s safe to do so, with so much virtuosic and real instruments and bars. The music video for ‘Wound Up’ has the same swagger as the song does, and is beautifully shot and stylishly edited. With each member of Phantom Phunk and C.I.D captured against graffiti and city-walls it works perfectly with the urban feel of the track.
Continuing from previous releases such as ‘A Week Ago’ and ‘Tongue Tied’, that have each achieved over 200,000 streams on Spotify alone, ‘Wound Up’ is sure to be a hit, and will continue Phantom Phunk’s ascent through 2021 and beyond.
‘Wound Up’ is set for release January 22nd.
