Vice Ganda confirms adjustments shifting from ABS-CBN to different platforms

During the online press conference of ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’, Vice Ganda confirmed adjustments in hosting ‘It’s Showtime’ as they shifted from ABS-CBN to Kapamilya Channel to A2Z.

The shutdown of ABS-CBN brought by the non-renewal of their franchise forced the network to explore other platforms.

From free TV they shifted to pay-TV through the Kapamilya channel and back again to free TV but this time, through the rebranded A2Z.

After several months of airing on A2Z, Vice Ganda spoke up on the adjustments he personally experienced as a host of the noontime show.

The comedian said that he was forced to evolve with the contestants and audiences as they shift to different channels.

“Alam mo nakaka baliw-baliw ‘tong show e’. Kasi, pa-evolve ng pa evolve ang platform, ang audience ang contestant so kailangan mong sabayan ang evolution e,’“ he said.

Also, they consider to be sensitive with their hosting as some people are struggling because of the pandemic.

“‘Yung ginagawa namin dati sa ‘Showtime, maraming bagay ang ginagawa namin sa ‘Showtime’ kung paano namin, hinahandle ang show ‘yung segments, ‘yung contestants, hindi namin puwede gawin ngayon, kasi you have to consider the pandemic, emotions ng maraming tao, ‘yung estado ng maraming tao, parang dati parang ano kami, all out tawanan wala kaming pakialam sa mundo,” Vice said.

“Pero ngayon, you have to be sensitive, hindi puwedeng laging masaya, kasi hindi ganun ang emotions ng mga tao,” he added.

Vice Ganda also said that he needs to know what kind of jokes their different audiences from cable and online platforms prefer and could handle.

Vice then admitted that he feels pressured hosting ‘It’s Showtime’ after all the changes that happened and adjustments he needed to practice.

“Ang lala ng evolution ang daming changes ang nangyayari araw-araw kaya nakaka suka siya sa pressure. Ang hirap-hirap. Nakakatuwa kasi, it’s a brand new challenge,” he said.

Being an ‘It’s Showtime’ host for more than 10 years, Vice Ganda already mastered the job. However, as the different adjustments came in, he now needs to study the show again.

“For the longest time siguro after a decade, ‘yung kaya kong mag-host ng ‘Showtime’ kahit lasing ako.

“Pero noong nagkaroon ng ganitong sitwasyon, kailangan ko mag-aral ulit. Kailangan kong pag-aralan ang audience ko, kailangan kong alamin ang atake kung ano ang puwedeng mga jokes lang, hanggang saan lang ba, ‘yung ganun.” the comedian added.

A2Z is a product of the agreement between ZOE Broadcasting Inc. of Bro. Eddie Villanueva and ABS-CBN.

Being owned by a religious organization, A2Z holds certain restrictions with the shows it’s airing. Definitely, ABS-CBN should adhere to A2Z’s vision being the home of the newest TV experience for Filipinos, gearing towards spiritual strengthening content.
