Regine Velasquez said that she and her husband Ogie Alcasid have nowhere else to go other than ABS-CBN. Asia’s Songbird said that she’s happy to be a Kapamilya.
Regine gave the said statement during a backstage interview with MJ Felipe on Sunday, December 20, during ABS-CBN’s 2020 Christmas Special.
When MJ thanked Regine and her husband for staying with the Kapamilya network despite its shut down, the singer replied saying, “Oo. Hahaha! Saan ba kami pupunta? May pupuntahan ba kaming iba?”
Regarding ABS-CBN’s Christmas special event, Regine said that she considers the event as something special because she is able to meet other Kapamilya artists that she normally doesn’t see on a regular basis.
“That is so special, siyempre, nandoon lahat ng artista, ang daming tao, special na special talaga iyon,” she said.
“Plus, you know, iyong mga ganito kasing gatherings, dito mo lang din nakikita iyong ibang artista na hindi mo madalas nakikita, nakakasalamuha, so you get to talk to them lalo na kapag may rehearsal,” she added.
ABS-CBN’s Christmas special event is an annual event for the network since the early 2000s. Both Regine and Ogie have been part of the event since their first year in the network.
The special is usually held at Araneta Coliseum where Kapamilya artists gather and perform live in front of an audience. But due to the restrictions of COVID-19 protocols this year, the network held the event inside the studios of ABS-CBN.
Regine noted that the special event for this year was more special and intimate for her. She said that most of the performances were more heartfelt.
“But this year, parang for me, it’s more intimate.
“A lot of the numbers are tagos na tagos sa puso, so ayun special pa rin,” said the singer.
Ogie also agreed with Regine and added saying that the event for this year might not compare to the previous coliseum concerts, but it was more meaningful after what the network has been through.
“Hindi ko sinasabing mas okay ito kaysa sa malalaking concert, it’s just that I guess, it’s also the year that has been.
“Itong taong ito ay kakaiba not only because of the pandemic, but because of what we all went through,” Ogie said referring to ABS-CBN’s denied franchise.
Regine added, “So, everyone’s kind of emotional, I think.”
Ogie continued, “It’s all Kapamilyas’ way of saying thank you for staying with us.”
Regine joined ABS-CBN in October 2018, after her husband joined the network a few years earlier. The singer has previously been with the Kapuso network where she stayed for 20 years.
