The pandemic really took a toll on everyone. And just like everyone else, singers and songwriters had difficulty being productive during the quarantine period. As a result, many looked for inspiration to keep them going and doing what they love.
During the BYE2020 media conference, singers FANA, Leanne and Naara, Miguel Odron, and Zack Tabudlo shared their motivation to keep writing songs.
For FANA, it was especially hard to do what you love to do because of the pandemic. She was somehow frustrated that a lot of her shows got cancelled because of the coronavirus. However, she used the frustration that she experienced during the quarantine period to serve as her fuel to continue her passion. The motivation that she gathered resulted on having her song ‘Out’ as heartfelt as it can be, making it into Himig Handog 2020.
FANA said, “It was challenging for all of us, especially to us artists because there were so many cancelled shows. This pandemic no one gets exempted. The whole world is extremely affected. We were stuck and like parang na-stop tayo kung san po tayo sanay like performing. Pero for me, my tip is let’s use it as a motivation. And we just continue lang with our music and what we are used to.”
Meanwhile, for the pop duo Leanne and Naara, positivity and being optimistic served as their inspiration. In this trying times, they tried their best to be productive and just like FANA, they used the problems that they experienced as their motivation to keep on writing and making music. As a result of them being driven, they were able to release their first ever album titled, Daybreak.
Leanne said, “I feel like it’s not easy to escape certain problems especially during this time. So I think the best way to do it is to use that to go through all of it and use that in making something beautiful, just like music. So I know we all have struggles and we are trying to be really positive about it and be productive. I think it worked best for us that we really tried our best to be productive despite the circumstances. And we tried to keep each other inspired, just lifting each other up. You know, really just keeping the friendship strong. And I think that really helped in making this whole thing easier for the both of us. Just keep the inspiration going.”
Miguel does something differently when getting his creative juices worked up. For him, he thinks of doing something out of the ordinary. With his method, he was able to relieve the pressure that he felt during the lockdown and quarantine days.
“One thing that really helped me creatively was sort of getting myself out of the kind of the sink hole of pressure of having to like write. Forcing myself to to do something completely different creatively. Like go out and like paint a picture using your feet or something. Or go learn how to make soap. Something to get myself out of the normal creative context that I’m in and do something different. And I think that was really helpful for me in getting my creative juices to flow again,” Miguel shared.
When it comes to motivation, Zack has a different source. And that is channeling his past experiences before there was COVID-19. He admitted that those past exploits led him to writing music. He also shared that listening to different kinds of music besides his genre really helped him a lot.
“I think personal experiences, it’s very similar to everyone else. It helps a lot having these personal experiences that happened before the pandemic. Like pulling back up those experiences and having these different types of imaginations when it comes to writing. It helps a lot to spark up the inspiration when you start writing. And becoming a producer as well helps a lot with references like different music. You hear a lot of music going around even if there’s a pandemic going on. Listening to different music helps a lot to,” Zack relayed.
