Pop duo Leanne and Naara have released their album Daybreak.
In an interview for the upcoming BYE2020, the duo had an interesting song that was included in their first-ever album.
That particular song is ‘Till Morning Comes’ and it is not a love song.
“It is actually a song about dance personified,” said Leanne.
According to Leanne, what inspired them to write it and make it into a groovy kind of song is because they were theater majors. They also emphasized that dance and music can actually take anxiety.
“It’s a funny story kasi we’re theater majors. So in a way parang dance-themed corporate. Parang we try to dance. Pero we were not dancers ha? We were just saying how dance and music when combined, how it can actually take your anxiety away,” Leanne emphasized.
When asked about the meaning, they said that it is a form of release and it is the dance that is talking, not a person.
“It is like a release. So that’s what the song is all about. It is not really a person talking, it’s more of dance talking to me. You know, I’m here for you, we can dance all day, if you’re feeling down, I’m here for you. So that’s what really the song is all about. I mean it is kind of funny in a way, but it really serves… may purpose talaga s’ya for us. It is very groovy,” Leanne said.
When it comes to how they were able to come up with songs amidst the pandemic what more release an album, the duo said the songs were about their personal experiences and the people around them.
“I guess our songs were based on experience, on stories of people around us,” Leanne shared.
She then went on to impart the struggle of singers and songwriters during the pandemic
“And during this time, it’s not very pleasant, you know a lot of people are struggling. A lot of artists are struggling because we don’t have any work,” she continued.
However, the pop duo turned the negative into a positive. They channeled the negativity into fueling their desire to write songs that would lift the hopes of their listeners. For them, one of their goals is to lighten the burden of their audience through their songs.
Leanne added, “But we channeled that into something positive. So when we write songs, parang we do not dwell on the negative side. Although we use that energy as motivation to write something positive, to write something that will brighten our listener’s state. So I guess if you listen to our songs, that’s really one of our goals. To make them sort of forget in a way, all the worries and just enjoy the music. Although they’re always gonna be there but we just want to lighten their load.”
