After the saddening news of ABS-CBN’s permanent closure, ABS-CBN announced that they will eventually begin the retrenchment program with its 11,000 employees.
Celebrities could not help but empathize with their fellow Kapamilyas who are facing a bleak future.
Kapamilya host Bianca Gonzalez and actress Agot Isidro who have been vocal about the issue of the network’s franchise renewal were saddened by the news.
Mahigpit na yakap para sa aking mga Kapamilya. 😥❤💚💙

Director Theodore Boborol shared that he will never forget the pain that he’s feeling especially that this was caused by our own government,
“Ang sakit sakit nang ginawa ng pamahalaang ito. Hindi ko ‘to makakalimutan”

Mike Navallo stressed that the retrenchment that will happen may not affect the Lopezes but will surely impact the ordinary employees that depend on their job in the network,
“The Lopezes, with their wealth, will live on. Pero ang mga ordinaryong empleyado, na may mga pinapaaral, pinapagamot at binubuhay, sila ang pinatay niyo. Blood is in your hands.”

Karen Davila can’t help but agree with Mike Navallo saying that the government didn’t kill the ‘oligarchs’ as what they claim but they killed the innocent employees and the families that will be affected.
“You said it perfectly Mike. Ang pinatay ng kongreso ay ang trabaho ng mga ordinaryong Pilipino na kailangan kumita ng pera para suportahan ang pamilya at mga kamag-anak.”

In a statement on Wednesday, ABS-CBN confirmed that the Retrenchment Program is the last resort to ensure that the majority of their employees are still working while they continue to function on a small online basis and via other avenues.
“With the non-renewal of its congressional franchise, ABS-CBN is now forced to cease the operations of some of its businesses and implement a retrenchment program covering ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries effective end of business day on 31 August 2020,” the network said.
“As much as it hurts us to implement this retrenchment program, this is the only way to ensure the continued employment of the rest of our Kapamilya.”
Last May, ABS-CBN News head Ging Reyes said the network is losing 35 million per day since it stopped broadcasting on Tuesday, May 5.

Although the management initially thought of starting to lay off workers in August, they are now considering doing so sooner because they can no longer afford losses. ABS-CBN also met with PAMI executives and decided to pay cuts and discounts on talent payments.
Between 30 to 35 million a day, ABS-CBN ‘s income is now down to just 2 to 2.5 million. Since their broadcast shut down on May 5 due to the cancelation of NTC ‘s order, ABS-CBN has lost millions of revenue.
