The much-anticipated Pinoy superhero movie Darna has finally begun shooting.
Jerrold Tarog, known for his projects Heneral Luna, Goyo, Bliss, and Sana Dati, excited netizens by hinting about the first-day shooting of the film. Last January 19 on Instagram, he shared a photo showing a Darna figurine with himself behind the camera in the background.

Darna will be the launching film of Star Magic talent Jane De Leon, who was chosen for the role from among almost 300 auditionees. She replaced Liza Soberano and Angel Locsin who both backed out due to their physical injuries.
The plan for a Darna movie adaptation was announced in 2018. After a long wait, the anticipated release of the film is now finally within reach with its newest lead actress.
In an interview with PUSH, Jane revealed that she already caught a first glimpse of the Pinay superheroine costume.
“Nung pinakita po sa akin yung costume [design], pina-check lang sa akin kung gusto ko, or any suggestions ganyan, pero siyempre sa Mars Ravelo [family] pa rin nakasalalay yung huling sagot natin diyan,” she narrated.
In her preparations for the film, Jane said that she is now having regular trainings including boxing.
“Almost every day, almost every day na po ako nagte-training. Fitness training, stunt training, halo-halo po. Kaya actually eto pong boxing sobrang laki rin ng tulong sa akin,”Jane said.
