- Aga Muhlach and Xia Vigor’s movie Miracle in Cell No.7 was the highest earner of MMFF 2019
- Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis ‘The Mall, The Merrier’ earned 320 million
- After many years as MMFF’s top-grosser, Vice failed to make the top this year.
‘Miracle in Cell No.7’ starring Aga Muhlach is officially the top grosser of the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival.
MMFF Execom member and spokesperson Noel Ferrer made the announcement on his social media accounts that this year the 8 MMFF official entries had a total gross sales of more than P955 million.
“The 8 MMFF official entries this year had a total gross sales of more than P955 million which is only 4.5% lower than our target of P1 billion, which is acceptable in the industry practice,” he posted.
The country had faced a lot of challenges last year which affected ticket sales.
Meanwhile, some other reports revealed the Box Office report on January 7 showing ‘Miracle in Cell No.7’ leading with P412 million followed by ‘The Mall, The Merrier’ with P320 million. Consistent MMFF top earner Vice Ganda’s movie ‘The Mall, The Merrier‘ only earned 320 million compared to last year’s ‘Fantastica’ which brought in P596 million.

‘The Mall, The Merrier’ revolves around Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis’s characters as estranged and warring sisters, Moira Molina and Morissette Molina, who battle each other in renovating and resuscitating their now-aging family mall to decide who would inherit it after their parents die in a plane crash. In the course of their topsy-turvy strife, they unleash an inevitable series of unfortunate events—the mall literally comes to life! They now have to find the solution in order to stop the mannequins, models from posters and tarpaulins, movie characters and other mall figures from creating more chaos.
However, Vice is still thankful for the outcome of the movie since it still brought in money.
