Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson, through the help of Front Row Philippines, hosted the charity basketball event The Th3rd Floor Celebrity 3v3 last December 15 for the children in Cottolengo Filipino that is based in Montalban, Rizal.
The actor said that this is his way of giving back while doing the thing which he is passionate about which is playing basketball.
“Kaibigan ko yung may-ari ng Front Row and we share one passion which is basketball. Nalaman ko that they have their own foundation and sabi ko why don’t we do something to give back? Yung mga bata sa Cottolengo Filipino, ilang years na kaming may relationship with that. So we just came here to play basketball and nag-donate ang Front Row Cares to them so they’re going to have a great Christmas. We’re just here because of the love for the game and love for helping other people,” he told reporters.
“Right now we have celebrities here and we have PBA players. Competitive silang lahat. So ang ganda ng energy, walang gustong magpatalo But we’re all here for a good reason,” he shared.
With the help of the actor’s celebrity baller friends, the one-day event amassed a total of P200,000 for the charity. Among the participants of the event were Marco Gumabao, Young JV, Kyle Echarri, Axel Torres, and Jairus Aquino as well as his Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) teammates and friends Jayjay Helterband and Thirdy Ravena.
“Right now we have celebrities here and we have PBA players. Competitive silang lahat. So ang ganda ng energy, walang gustong magpatalo But we’re all here for a good reason,” Gerald shared.
Apart from this, Gerald was recently appointed as the new Philippine Youth Ambassador on December 8 by the KASAMA (Kabataang Sama-samang Maglilingkod) after Dingdong Dantes and the late Rico Yan.
The actor shared, “It’s going to be a long year and I’m very privileged dahil may bagong platform to help. Because I’ve been doing this naman as a celebrity but now it’s different because I have a new platform which will reach more people and mas marami tayong matutulungan.”
Despite all the personal issues he has to go through, Gerald plans to reach out to more people as the new Philippine Youth Ambassador.
“Unang-una makapagbigay ng inspiration at ipakita kung gaano ka-importante tumulong sa iba basta kaya natin. Kailangan ‘yung bang tao, kung ano kaya nating ibigay, ibigay natin sa iba at marami tayong matutunan sa pagtulong sa iba. May plano kami about education, siyempre sports na mas malapit sa puso ko,” he said.
Meanwhile, some netizens expressed their dismay and disbelief after KASAMA appointed him as the new ambassador.
