Congressman Alfred Vargas agreed with Vice Ganda regarding the issue of comedy films in the Metro Manila Film Festival.
In an interview, Vargas said he’s on the side of Vice regarding comedy genre because he knows how hard it is to make people laugh through comedy films.
“Agree ako kay Vice Ganda, tama sya mahirap….Mga kaibigan hindi po madali gumawa nang comedy napakahirap po gumawa nang comedy,” said Vargas.
He also belied notions that comedy films do not deserve to be part of the annual film fest which many critics have always been voicing out.
“That’s not true..comedy actually, kadalasan mas mahirap pa mag comedy kesa sa mag drama kasi iba yung timing, tapos yung wit, yung ano yung spontaneity mo, yung bilis mo mag-isip, ano yun requirements lahat yun eh. And yung mga nag-cocomedy para lang sa mga gifted talaga na magaling dyan sa larangan ng comedy,” he said.
Recently, Vice Ganda called out the “call-out culture” for questioning the value of comedy genre in MMFF.
Many film enthusiasts and netizens have always been critical of comedy films entering the MMFF. For them comedy films especially those done by famous comedians like Vice Ganda and Vic Sotto are bumping off more worthy films that should be part of the yearly film festival.
But for Vice, it is unfair for people to look down on comedy films. He said comedy films play an important role not only in MMFF but also in how the Filipinos celebrate the Christmas season.

“Kailangan i-call out din natin na mali ho yung mababang tingin niyo sa comedy, na kinukuwestiyon ninyo ang kahalagahan ng comedy sa pelikula at sa buhay in general. Since call out culture nga, i-call out natin sila at dapat siguro sa tulong ninyo, maaring ipaliwanag ninyo sa kanila kung bakit mahalaga at legit ang comedy, especially sa Pasko, lalo na sa Pilipinas,” said Vice.
He also added that he’s praying that no Filipino comedian should die because comedians and comedy are very important for this country.
“Kailangan ng Pilipinas ng comedy, at kailangan ng Pilipinas ang komedyante. Sabi ko nga, sana walang mamatay na komedyante sa Pilipinas, kasi nakakalungkot kapag nabawasan ng komedyante ang Pilipinas, comedy is very important,” he added.
