- Gabbi Garcia and former screen partner Ruru Madrid have more opportunities after love team break-up
- Gabbi is inspired by strong women roles
- Alden Richards is proof an actor doesn’t need to be in love team to be successful
Newly crowned box office king Alden Richards proves that an actor does not need to be in a love team to be successful.
As seen in Hello, Love, Goodbye success, it’s really about the actor using his talents and the quality of the story that makes any project, be it a movie or a TV show, something that the audiences will consider worthwhile.
Gabbi Garcia is out to prove the same.
Gabbi was the love team partner of Ruru Madrid for four years until it was officially confirmed that their tandem ended in May of last year.
Gabbi and Ruru’s tandem started when they starred in the shows My Destiny and Let the Love Begin. In 2016, the two starred as Sang’gre Alena and Ybrahim in the Encantadia remake. They last worked together in Sherlock Jr. where Gabbi’s character was killed off.
The GabRu tandem was loved by many viewers leading to them top-billing a teleserye in 2015. Although both Gabbi and Ruru remained Kapuso Stars, GMA Artist’s Center wanted to give them various projects that will develop their full potential as artists and explore various possibilities.
After the tandem broke up, more opportunities came their way.

For Gabbi, she does not want to be stuck in a love team and instead work with different leading men and actors.
“Mas maganda po na wala munang love team. Mas masaya iyong iba-iba naman ang katambal mo. Hindi limited ang gagawin mong project, dahil walang iisiping may iku-consider kang love team,” she said during the mediacon interview.
“Pareho naman po kami ni Ruru na magbe-benefit kapag walang ka-love team. Ruru is being paired with different actresses like sina Kylie Padilla and Barbie Forteza. He’s really doing good on his own.
“Kaya iyon din po ang gusto ko. To work with different actors para mag-grow po tayo sa career natin,” she added.
In her upcoming primetime series Beautiful Justice, she will be working with Derrick Monasterio.
“Matagal na po kaming magkakilala ni Derrick, pero first time po lamang kaming magkatambal dito. Ngayon ko lamang nalamang kenkoy rin pala siya. Akala ko, napakaseryoso niya. Hindi naman pala.
“Magaan siyang kasama sa eksena, makulit. Kahit sino sa set, kinakausap niya. Nag-enjoy kaming lahat noong magsimula na kaming mag-training para sa serye.”
Gabbi will play the character of Brie, a social media influencer looking for answers as to what happened to her fiance, Lance.
“Brie is your typical mayaman na maarte kind of girl, but what’s different about her is that she’s also smart. And surprisingly, she’s also a hacker. Yun ang naging edge niya, kasi she’s pretty good with anything that deals with high tech computers.
“She got into a dangerous situation, kasi she wants answers, and it all leads to a syndicate called the Black Pentagon.
“So, kami nina Yasmien Kurdi and Bea Binene, we all got sucked into this and we have to stick together to achieve yung justice na hanap naming tatlo.”
For Gabbi, it is inspiring how women are empowered by their roles on screen.
“I’m inspired by the strong women roles that are being portrayed on film and in different TV shows. Because of social media, nagkaroon na ng voice ang maraming tao, especially women.
“Women today are so active in empowering each other, and it’s about time to show the masses that women take on different roles. Hindi lang kami pang-girlfriend role, pang-mother role, pang-wife role, pang-mistress role. Puwede rin kami sa action and mapapanood nila iyan sa Beautiful Justice.”
Watch out for more of Gabbi in the Kapuso Network’s newest primetime series, Beautiful Justice which replaces Sahaya.
