- Dindo Arroyo, Garcia’s co-star, believed that the veteran actor did not trip over a wire
Eddie Garcia is still in critical condition in the neurology ward of Makati Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit as said by director Bibeth Orteza.
In an early statement attributed to his family, it was reported that Garcia “suffered from a severe heart attack” while taping for the show and this was in turn released by GMA’s public relations arm.
But on June 9, Sunday, GMA Network said it was reviewing a viral video of the veteran actor supposedly collapsing while shooting an upcoming television series for the media network.
“The video of Mr. Eddie Garcia faltering in his steps and eventually collapsing has reached GMA. We are seriously reviewing the said video as well as other videos of the same scene which our cameras also took before we make any conclusions on what really transpired,” GMA-7 said in a statement.
The network said it would wait for Garcia’s family or doctor to issue a formal update on his condition. “Meanwhile, we continue to pray for his quick recovery,” it added.

With the uncertainty about the true cause of the incident, netizens and celebrities expressed their own opinions and reactions to it.
Rosang Agimat cast member Jestoni Alarcon recalled his moments with the multi-awarded actor before the incident, saying that he collapsed after tripping and was rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo, Manila.
Phillip Salvador also contradicted the initial news that said that the multi-awarded actor suffered a “severe heart attack”.

“Nabalitaan ninyo na inatake daw si EG, Eddie Garcia…. Dun po sa lahat ng mga fans niya, sa mga followers niya, hindi po siya inatake. Mahusay po at matibay po ang puso ni Eddie Garcia. Nadisgrasya po s’ya. Naaksidente po s’ya. Sumabit po ang paa niya sa kable,” Salvador said.
Dindo Arroyo, who was with Garcia at the Rosang Agimat taping, believed that the veteran actor did not trip over a wire during the shooting after he reviewed the video himself.
“Pls. stop making stories about Tito Eddie. Kami nandoon, mas maraming nagmamarunong?” said Dindo.
“This is the version of slow motion!!! Hindi sumabit sa paa ang kable!!! Stop making up stories!!!
“Tito Eddie needs your prayers. GMA 7 is as Top po of the situations [sic]. Eddie Garcia is ok for now,” Dindo added.
Director Orteza, who is a close friend of Eddie’s partner, said that the actor did not suffer from a heart attack or aneurysm but had a fractured neck after tripping on the set of Rosang Agimat which is contrary to earlier reports.
“No heart attack, no aneurysm or anything related to brain,” Orteza said.
“He tripped on a cable wire of the production. Fell face down and fractured something base neck c1 and c2,” she added.
Dr. Enrique Lagman, the uncle of Garcia’s longtime partner Lillibeth Romero, said that test results showed no heart attack or stroke. Lagman said Garcia is under observation.
Meanwhile, the Garcia family is asking the public to continue to pray for his speedy recovery.
