As part of ‘Aladdin’s’ promotions in the Philippines, Morissette Amon met with American actor Will Smith, who plays Genie, and composer Alan Menken in Tokyo, Japan. On June 2, Disney Philippines’ official YouTube channel shared Morissette’s vlog during the meet-up.
In the video, Morissette received a hug from Will Smith while Alan Menken told her, “Lea told me about you.” He was referring to Lea Salonga who was the singing voice of Jasmine in the original animated version of Aladdin.
“A lot of kids in the Philippines grew up to your music—including myself. And it’s such an honor to be meeting you,” said Amon.
The Oscar-winning Disney composer praised the Filipina singer for having such a great voice. “You hit some great notes there though! It was fantastic,” said Menken.
As a ‘Genie,’ Will Smith wished to hear “A Whole New World” as performed by the song’s creator and Asia’s Phoenix.
Morissette Amon and Darren Espanto weren’t even born yet when the Disney song “A Whole New World,” originally sung by Lea Salonga and Brad Kane in the movie, dominated the airwaves.
The two singers were picked by Disney to sing the Philippine version of the song for the live action Aladdin.
