GMA Network and ABS-CBN have been competing with each other ever since. From producing total performers, molding talented artists, to producing high quality teleseryes, there’s no way that one will let the other win.
But speaking of teleseryes, it is noticeable that some of GMA Network’s shows have the same title as that of ABS-CBN’s.
Is it just a coincidence?
Here are instances that GMA Network used titles from ABS-CBN shows.
Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig – ABS-CBN in 2012, GMA Network in 2019
GMA Network is set to air new teleseryes this summer and one of those is ‘Dahil Sa Pag-Ibig’ which stars Benjamin Alves and Sanya Lopez. This is the first team-up of Sanya and Benjamin.
‘Dahil sa Pag-Ibig’ is a drama that will depict the lives of our dear OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) abroad, and the sacrifices they make just to give their families a brighter future.
But the title of the upcoming teleserye is noticeably the same with ABS-CBN’s defunct TV series (with the same title) that aired from March 12, 2012 to June 29, 2012 starring Cristine Reyes, Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Maricar Reyes, and Christopher De Leon.
Nonetheless, the plot of the defunct show is way too different from the upcoming TV series of GMA.
Not the first – Someone To Watch Over Me
‘Someone To Watch Over Me’ is a TV series broadcast by GMA Network starring Lovi Poe, Tom Rodriguez, and Max Collins. The series premiered on September 5, 2016, and concluded on January 6, 2017.
The story is about a man named TJ, who fell in love with a woman named Johanna, and the biggest trial in their marriage when TJ was diagnosed with an early-onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
In 2016, ABS-CBN launched an upcoming series with the same title. Judy Ann Santos and Richard Yap were supposed to team-up on the said series but the show was shelved due to the former’s pregnancy.
