Jerald Napoles wants consideration for GMA Network actresses in selecting the new ‘Darna’

The Kapuso comedian-actor Jerald Napoles got different reactions form netizens after his Twitter post last Friday, April 5. After Liza Soberano’s exit from the Darna role due to her right index finger injury, the selection for the next actress who will replace her started.

As a result, many netizens were excited as to who would be the new actress to wear the Darna costume. They even shared their picks of who they think would best fit the iconic role and one of the suggested actresses is Kapuso actress, Sanya Lopez.

Jerald agreed that Sanya fits to be ‘Darna’ and expressed his sentiments regarding the selection of the new actress who will portray ‘Darna’. In his tweet he stated, “I kinda agree that @sanya_lopez is one of the top (if not the top) contenders to be the next ‘Darna’.”

In his other tweet, he joked that he can play the role of ‘Ding,’ Darna’s sidekick. Jerald even mentioned another Kapuso female artist that he thinks deserve the ‘Darna’ role. It’s no other than the rom-com queen, Jennylyn Mercado.

He also wished that GMA Network actresses should be considered in the selection of the new ‘Darna’ movie. Aside from this, he expressed his opinion that there must be a wide selection, in other words, an audition for the ‘Darna’ role, stressing that the new ‘Darna’ must be a representation of all Filipino women.

Netizens have mixed reactions over Jerald’s post. While others agree with him, others don’t. In fact, the Kapuso actor has been bashed by a netizen. As a response to his tweets, the netizen replied, “Nasa ABS-CBN Star Cinema ang rights ngayon ng Darna. Bakit nila ibibigay sa GMA artist? Huy gising!” He also added, “Eto, baliktarin natin sitwasyon. Halimbawa nasa GMA ang rights ng Darna, sa tingin niyo ibibigay ng GMA yan sa artist from rival network? DIBA HINDI.”

Jerald defended his statements by writing, “I am stating my opinion regarding the casting. I am very much aware of the situation. I work in the industry, I know better. This is my Twitter. The only place I’m allowed to say my two cents. Why are you even condescending?” What can you say about it?”
