- Angel Locsin says she won’t take back the ‘Darna’ role after Liza’s withdrawal
- Liza Soberano said she will no longer be able to do the movie due to a finger injury
Since ‘Darna’ is no longer with Liza Soberano, some fans are still hoping that Star Cinema would still consider Angel Locsin to play the iconic superheroine role.
On April 4, Liza Soberano backed out of the ‘Darna’ project due to a finger injury, from an accident in ‘Bagani’ last year which didn’t heal. It hindered her stunt training for the movie. Six steel plates were inserted in her right index finger and she will still undergo another surgery next month. The announcement coincided with Angel Locsin’s pilot episode as the ‘Darna’ in 2005 on GMA Network.
Since the viewers are seeing Locsin doing stunts for her hit prime time series ‘The General’s Daughter,’ many assume that it’s also time for her to take back the role since she was the original choice for it.
Okay, di na magagampanan ni Liza ang #Darna, let #NadineLustre take over the role. If not, give it back to the real Darna herself @143redangel

Despite the fans’ clamor, Angel declined the possibility of going back to the role.
“Of course, masaya ako sa pagmamahal na binigay nila, pero no,” Locsin told ABS-CBN News.
She also appealed to fans to give some time for the selection of the actress who will take on the role.
“Ganu’n talaga, ang bato talaga ni Darna, namimili ng tao. Hindi basta basta lang.”
It’s been 14 years since Locsin first wore the iconic costume for a TV series, imbuing it with gravitas and grace –a famous performance that defined, in the eyes of many, what a strong female superheroine should be for years to come.
In 2013, Star Cinema head Malou Santos revealed that Locsin will play ‘Darna.’ Locsin worked hard for more than a year to achieve the most perfect body for ‘Darna’ but then, her body can no longer do so much for the physical needs of the role. In 2017, Locsin’s doctor did not give her clearance to do the role because she felt pain in her back again.
So far, Star Cinema have announced a replacement for the role. Some names that have cropped up included Pia Wurtzbach, Nadine Lustre, Jessy Mendiola, Anne Curtis, Maja Salvador, Cristine Reyes, Kathryn Bernardo, and Yassi Pressman.
