- Rcently, MNCTV, an Indonesian media company announced that it is airing its own version of ABS-CBN noontime variety show ‘It’s Showtime’
- The Kapamilya top-rating afternoon show is next to GMA Network’s ‘Eat Bulaga’ on Indonesian television screens
- ‘It’s Showtime’ management confirms that the official premiere will be on Monday, March 25 in Indonesia.
Over the past years, television programs can be borrowed from another country for entertainment. TAPE Inc.’s ‘Eat Bulaga’ had a deal prior to Kapamilya network’s ‘It’s Showtime,’ which the latter is replacing the former as it airs its Indonesian version of the noontime show.
‘Eat Bulaga’ was the first ever Philippine television variety show to be franchised globally. It was first called ‘Eat Bulaga! Indonesia’ and premiered on July 16, 2012 and ended on April 3, 2014. At the time it was originally aired on SCTV network. The show returned and was already called ‘The New Eat Bulaga! Indonesia,’ it was aired on ANTV from November 17, 2014 to August 8, 2016 with a mix of original and new hosts.
ABS-CBN’s ‘It’s Showtime’ started as ‘Showtime’ on October 21, 2009 and later it was reformatted to ‘It’s Showtime’ on February 06, 2012 but kept its search for the country’s most entertaining acts and turned out to be a hit segment that launched a thousand trends for Filipinos here and abroad.

It has established a brand of entertainment and fostered spontaneity and animated conversations. It is more fun on ‘It’s Showtime’ as it attracted talented Filipinos to showcase their globally amazing acts and all.
On March 16 (Saturday), MNCTV an Indonesian media company posted a lyric video of ‘It’s Showtime’s’ theme song in Bahasa on its facebook page.

The announcement was then officially made by the programs business unit head Peter Edward Dizon when he proudly shared the video. One of the hosts Vhong Navarro also announced the good news during a new segment ‘BidaMan’ when he said that ‘It’s Showtime Indonesia’ will be launched this month and the management backs this up by confirming that the official premiere will be on Monday, March 25.
Segments to be catered in the international franchise are yet unclear but Indonesians may expect versions of the popular amateur singing competition ‘Tawag Ng Tanghalan.’
Currently, it added two new segments the ‘KapareWho,’ a dating game for men and women who are in their 40’s and above. Two daily searchers known as whomahanap get to pick their dates from the three daily kalawhoks.
Then, ‘BidaMan’ is a search for the next leading man that can possibly become one of the network’s talents. It seeks to discover a man who is an all-rounder; capable of singing, dancing, acting and who has the looks for the next onscreen leading man to be paired with a leading woman.
Originally, the 39-year-old ‘Eat Bulaga!’ has mastered the art and science of keeping its noontime audience look forward to their show and it was the first Filipino show to break into the Indonesian TV market. With its careful balance of gags, games, song and dance, public service, from the show’s long-time hosts led by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon, together with their guest stars have managed to stay long and strong amid all the challenges it faces its competitions.

The program is hailed as the longest-running show worldwide and it already has a total of 39 seasons. It first premiered on RPN-9 from 1979 to 1989. After 10 years it transferred to ABS-CBN Network from 1989 to 1995 lasting only for seven years. It then moved to GMA Network and has been with the network for 24 years.
Hopefully, many more locally-made variety shows will cater to the international audience as well.
