Puerto-Rican actress Dayanara “Yari” Torres, born October 28, 1974, is also a singer, writer, model, and beauty queen who won as Miss Universe 1993 at the age of 19.
She inspired many women who tried their luck in beauty pageants.
Recently, Dayanara posted sad news on her Facebook account.
Here, the Puerto Rican beauty queen confirmed that she has melanoma or skin cancer. Her post included the process on how she discovered her condition.
“Today I have some sad news… I have been diagnosed with skin cancer “melanoma” from a big spot/mole I never paid attention to, even though it was new, it had been growing for years and had an uneven surface,” she posted.
Her fiance had been begging her to make a check up before and finally she found time.
“My fiancé Louis had been begging me to have it checked and finally made an appointment himself… after a biopsy and a second surgery last Tuesday the results unfortunately are positive. Now we are waiting to see which treatment I will be receiving but they have already removed a big area from the back of my knee and also they have removed 2 lymph nodes at the top of my leg where it had already spread. Hoping it has not spread to any more areas or organs,” said Dayanara.
She’s full of positivity and willingness to overcome this circumstance she’s facing for her children’s sake.
“I have put everything in God’s hands and I know he has all control… My sons, although a bit scared, know about my faith and know they have a warrior of a mommy!,” Dayanara continued.
The 65th Miss Universe held in the Philippines was Dayanara’s last visit to the country as judge of the said event. She even visited “ASAP,” an ABS-CBN musical variety show where she once was a part of and was able to meet many old friends.
She was close to the Filipinos’ hearts because of her movie “Basta’t Kasama Kita” with Aga Muhlach.
