An evening of Thor
The nite of January 28 @Music Hall in Ortigas Center Pasig City was an evening of Thor Dulay – the so-called “Master of Soul”. Thor is known to many as a back-up singer, vocal Coach and recording artist. His presence has been quite familiar in the music scene as he lent his distinct vocals to various gigs and big corporate affairs in the past, as wellas front-line acts for local concert of international singers. Indeed, he crafted well his own niche, written an intimidating career profile for himself and built strong connections and myriad of followers at that. He made wave anew prior to his exposure in the VoicePh Season 1 that introduced his name to the younger generation.
Needless to say, his musical genius is ripe for the picking – and it get better as time passes like a fine wine.
A Star-Studded Nite
Celebrity sightings are in the house. Good buddies and Top balladeers Eric Santos & Christian Bautista clapped for him with gusto’ while he belt on stage. Actor-Dancer Aaron Villaflor and Varsity Superstar Gretchen Ho (who turned actress in one of Thor’s music vid) gamely rubbed elbow with other fresh talents from the same recording company Thor was signed in. Global Fil-Am rapper Apple De Ap, his chosen mentor for VoicePH fever has became an ardent fan of him as Coach vivaciously cheered and raised his arms in pride as his protege’ delivered his pieces skillfully. His fellow singers from the team were also noted and jammed with himin impromptu as a way of their genuine support to a big bro they look upto. Team APL is a family. A close one.
Mighty & Master in one
Yet, the lenses and the limelight focused on Thor’s might. Fair enough, his talent played well, and would give producers a ran for their money. His light charisma as a person and a performer shines brightly so. They who have faith in him and more are what boosted his morale to do better, to aspire harder in his field. He was humbled, grateful for those who walked an extra mile with him to reach this far.
Returns to Airwaves
After a decade or so, he released his debut album that rock radio channels in 2004 under Warner Music, followed by another one from Ivory records in 2007 where he duets with then hit-makers. After 8 long years of hiatus in album making, a more serious music of Thor has emerges in collaboration with respected songwriters Jungee Marcelo and Soc Villanueva. Francis Salazar and Raizo Chabeldin of Cornerstone Music produced, while Star Music market the same via Astroplus stores.
The soulful Album
Master of Soul is a mixture of original composition and revival covers of R&B, Ballad & Soul genre. Thor’s special thanks went to Queen of all media herself, Ms. Kris Aquino for inspiring her to come up with one a revival piece of “I miss You” from the 80’s that sang with depth emanating from his true love for his craft.
