- DILG Secretary Año suggested to change the plot of ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’.
- PNP has raised alarm over the portrayal of cops in the country in the longest action-drama series on ABS-CBN .
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año wanted to change the plot of ABS-CBN’s action-drama series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
In a statement, Año said he wanted the show’s plot to be rewritten to favor the Philippine National Police (PNP) as it somehow demoralized the organization.
“It affects the morale of the PNP (Philippine National Police), especially those who are doing good in their job. Tinataya nila ang buhay nila diyan para mai-save kung sino man ‘yung ise-save,” he said.
“Kahit part lang ng segment ay ‘yung buong organization ay masama, ang namumuno ay masama, ang laki ng epekto sa mga nanonood no’n. Hindi natin gusto ipatigil, gusto nating baguhin ‘yung kanilang plot.”
DILG has direct administrative supervision over PNP.
When asked if he is willing to meet the show’s lead star and director Coco Martin, the DILG Sec. said yes if there’s a chance.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN on their official statement reiterated that the show is a work of fiction and reassured the PNP that there is no intention to smear the agency’s reputation.
It also highlighted the fact that the series’ main character Cardo Dalisay played by Coco Martin as a hard-working policeman dedicated to saving lives and shared good values about family and friendships.
Here’s the full official statement of ABS-CBN regarding the series:
“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” assures the Philippine National Police (PNP) that the characters, places, and incidents in the program are purely fictitious as stated in the disclaimer aired at the start of the show every night. There is no intention to smear the reputation of any organization or portray any person in a negative light.
“The program has also portrayed its main character, Cardo, as a hardworking police officer dedicated to saving lives and serving his fellowmen. As in the past years, “FPJAP” has highlighted that good shall always triumph over evil and has shared valuable lessons and family values that have resonated with viewers,” wrote Kane Errol Choa, Head of ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications.
The show’s lead actor and director Coco Martin also shared his side on the controversy.
Coco took to Instagram to post his statement that read ‘Pasensya na po!’ and it accompanied by a photo containing the show’s disclaimer, posted in the beginning of every episode.
