  • Gretchen Fullido files criminal cases against news executives and reporter.
  • She filed sexual harassment against Cheryl C. Favila and Maricar P. Asprec.
  • She filed libel against Cecilia Drilon, Venancio Borromeo and Marie Lozano.

APV Law Offices is representing ABS-CBN news anchor and reporter Gretchen Fullido in the criminal cases she filed against news executives and reporter.

She filed sexual harassment, libel and victim shaming cases against Cheryl C. Favila, former ABS-CBN News Executive, and Maricar P. Asprec, ABS-CBN News Segment Producer. Atty. Marvin B. Aceron posted a news release on his Facebook account.

“Gretchen Fullido files criminal cases against news executives and reporter for sexual harassment, libel and victim shaming

Gretchen Marie Fullido, ABS-CBN anchor and reporter, filed this afternoon a sexual harassment case against Cheryl C. Favila, former ABS-CBN News Executive, and Maricar P. Asprec, ABS-CBN News Segment Producer. The case was filed before the City Prosecutors’ Office of Quezon City.”

Sexual harassment.

In Atty. Marvin’s Facebook post, Gretchen disclosed that both Cheryl and Maricar sent her a series of text messages full of sexual innuendos and requests for sexual favors.

“Fullido alleged that Favila and Asprec sent her text messages that were loaded with sexual innuendos, which amounted to requests for sexual favors. She further stated that when she rejected the advances, the two retaliated and made it difficult for her to work as a reporter and news anchor for TV Patrol. It was a cycle that was going on for almost three years.”

Libel and victim-shaming.

Atty. Marvin further shared that Gretchen filed libel against ABS-CBN News executives Cecilia Drilon and Venancio Borromeo, and news reporter Marie Lozano. According to the post, Gretchen accused the three of besmirching her reputation.

“Fullido also filed libel cases against two news executives of ABS-CBN, Cecilia Drilon and Venancio Borromeo, news reporter Marie Lozano, alleging that the three besmirched her reputation when they stated that she filed a similar sexual harassment complaint against Favila and Asprec with ABS-CBN management to leverage her employment status with ABS-CBN.

Fullido in her Complaint Affidavit also said Drilon resorted to victim shaming and imputed statements that Fullido deserved to be harassed, since Fullido allegedly, was willing to wear a bikini with an inflatable pool with bubbles to shove up the ratings of TV Patrol, a leading daily news program.”

ABS-CBN dismissed previous complaint.

According to the post, ABS-CBN Management had dismissed Gretchen’s previous sexual harassment complaint.

“In July 16, 2018, ABS-CBN Management released a Decision dismissing the case for sexual harassment against Cheryl C. Favila but finding her liable for Gross Misconduct leading to her dismissal from the company recently. Fullido attached a copy of the ABS-CBN Investigating Body’s decision to the Complaint.

Fullido, a regular employee and news reporter and anchor for ABS-CBN, is the first Filipino news celebrity to speak up against sexual harassment in the news industry in the Philippines.”

ABS-CBN releases statement.

In a press statement, Integrated Corporate Communications Head Kane Errol Choa said, “ABS-CBN respects the right of news anchor and reporter Gretchen Marie Fullido to bring her sexual harassment complaint to the courts. Now that she has filed charges with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, we expect all parties to allow the legal process to take its course.

ABS-CBN takes sexual harassment seriously and does not condone such acts in the workplace or by its employees. When Ms. Fullido filed an administrative case against a supervising producer and a segment producer for alleged sexual harassment in November 2017, the company took prompt action on the administrative complaint and decided based on the evidence presented.”
