- Lito Atienza called on FDCP to ask state approval of script prior to production.
- He continued to slam the recently produced Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
- According to the lawmaker, it doesn’t exemplify the positive qualities of Filipinos.
House Senior Deputy Minority Leader Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr. called on Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) to properly evaluate Filipino films and give appropriate tax incentives to ensure its quality.
Lito issued the said call when deliberating about the FDCP’s proposed budget of Php 120.5-million for 2019.
Tax incentives.
According to Committee on Appropriations Vice Chairman Rep. Eric Olivarez, the Philippines produced a total of 120 films in 2017. He also sponsored the FDCP proposed budget.
Olivarez shared that the said incentives would help to ensure the increased production of quality local films.
Why is tax incentives needed?
According to Atienza if a film doesn’t have a proper script and production, it doesn’t exemplify the positive qualities of Filipinos.
“Film is one of the most powerful media that we can think of. Pag maganda ang sine, maaaring ito ay makapagbigay ng inspirasyon. Kaya tayo mayroong tax incentive. Kapag ang sine ay hindi po maganda ang script at hindi maganda ang production, nagsisilbi lamang na mali sa kasaysayan ng ating bansa.”
Moira Lang and Jerrold Tarog comment.
Screenwriter Moira Lang noted how this was a nightmare.
“State approval of script prior to production? Yay!!! Kasi imposibleng totoo ito. I therefore conclude
ISA TONG BANGUNGOT.”
Movie director Jerrold Tarog joked about submitting a reading list.
“If ever, submit na lang din ako ng reading list sa kanila plus laminated disclaimer charot”
Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
Atienza also said that Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral portrayed that the Filipino patriots volunteered to defend the Tirad Pass as cowards. The movie apparently irked the lawmaker.
Netizens react.
People on the internet slammed Lito Atienza’s insult towards the historical film.
“Ugh Lito Atienza dami mo kuda basa muna. 390 pesos lang yung a question of heroes ni Nick Joaquin sa nbs”
“I heard Lito Atienza Jr. was not impress and was pissed about GOYO. Boi you failed to make Manila great and you acclaimed to be historian, the hell with that b*llsh*t. He wanted a fairytale movie not straight facts! I can only say to his lousy statement, “TAHOL LITO TAHOL”!”
“Oo nga naman! Dapat gumawa ng mga heroic persona mula sa kasaysayan gaya ni Erap ng matuwa naman ‘yung fanboy niyang si Lito Atienza.”
“Lito Atienza, gumawa ka na lang ng sarili mong fan-made Goyo film punyeta”
“Sorry pero kebs ko kay Lito Atienza. That was exactly who Goyo was: a follower of his idol (his idol being Miong). Tulad ng idol niyang si Goyo: Bulag at bingi dahil perpekto ang idolo niya. The movie humanized his idol. Kaya pikon ang lolo.”
“Na goyo ng Goyo.
‘Putang pelikulang ito.’ Kinalabit ko misis ko, sabi ko ‘Alis na tayo” – Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr.”
“Looks like someone is whining because he felt lied to by his elementary books. That’s so sad Alexa play Mahal kong Maynila. Wake up, Lito Atienza.”
“Lito Atienza would rather show LIES onscreen instead of truth. What a dick. Cowards of Tirad Pass? ‘Goyo’ film irks lawmaker via @ABSCBNNews”
