How long can five minutes be? New OPPO F9 offers 5-minute charging technology

  • The five-minute productivity mindset is a good way to start our days.
  • Oppo F9’s upcoming VOOC Flash Charge Technology will allow its users to charge for five minutes and use the device for two hours.
  • Technology enables us to do a lot of things faster, but we’re limited by the slow-charging of our smart phones.

Each day, I wake up knowing that I have limited time to do the things I want. If there is one thing we all get the same of, regardless of social position and upbringing, it definitely is “time.” Surely, this can both be relieving and pestering at once: no matter how equal we think we may be (reckoning the same limited time we receive), still, we vary in situations, the day-to-day battles we are also ‘gifted’ with.

This then gives us (at least, the guilty me!) the sightless, almost piteous prerogative to reason out that life is perpetually marked by biases: those regular ‘life is unfair’ monologues (and all the other platitudes we can come up with). But every day, still, we are given the choice on how we would spend our lives – and we will all be defined by what we do in the small, little chunks of time we have.

Like how we make use of the many five minutes we have each day.

Five minutes can simply mean taking a quick, cold, no-shave shower. Or maybe slaying an ‘elevator pitch’ to your boss for a project you’re working on. Or doing a five-minute workout tutorial online. Or applying for a job online (and making a monumental U-turn at life). Or just taking a heart-warming five-minute birthday call from your mother. Time really matters and every five-minute task leads us to where we need to be. What we do (and not do) in five minutes can determine whether we will be fruitful in the long haul (or at the very least, for the day). As the clichés take hold, surely, one can make it big only by starting small. That’s why, it’s so true to say that our days are mostly made up of those five-minute choices – be these choices good or bad. No time should be wasted.

Living in a technology-dependent age, we definitely have the advantages of speed and ease in the tasks we do. We answer emails, take calls, stream videos, write messages, or simply read contents. Five minutes can really be a lot, and it’s easy to say that multitasking is our generation’s major plus.

But what I had realized as always is how, often times, it’s frustrating to find our devices easily out of battery. And, really, the convenience of portable powerbanks is a constant reminder that we have consented to this situation (almost time-honored at that) of how the battery lifespan of our smart phones just takes half a day or less – religiously, like some sort of a rule. Notably, powerbanks are one of the many faulty technologies I’ve known, ever. I bought mine at a well-known gadgets store and it just happened to function well for a week. A WEEK!

That is why, recently knowing about ‘fast-charging’ technology is a great necessity. (Especially that an average Filipino spends about four hours on social media, according to a 2018 Global Digital report.) However, usually, these technologies still take us 30 minutes to have our devices well-charged. Knowing that many of us work and live in such rapid-fire environments (and yes, we are hardly the average Filipino type), we spend most of the day on social media – constantly hungry for updates, for entertainment, for anything fleeting. That’s why, it’s no trouble to say that thirty-minutes of mobile phone charging already feels like forever. Right? Our Grab drivers are waiting outside and our bosses are demanding for the reports. We can only wait for five minutes (300 seconds) to have our mobile devices charged. No excuses.

What’s revolutionary, of course, is the upcoming OPPO F9’s VOOC Flash Charge Technology – which allows its users to charge for five minutes and use the device for two hours!

OPPO F9 is the brand-new breakthrough F series smart phone that will come not only with the VOOC Flash charge, which applies a low voltage fast charging mechanism to lightning quick charging – all in five minutes. Notably, it can achieve a charging speed which is 4x faster than the usual charging technology. This means, we can actually charge our phones faster while not worrying about having it fried. Five minutes is no trouble.

Truly, our days are mostly made up of our five-minute choices. What we do and not do in five minutes can determine whether our days will be fruitful. With this new technology coming, we can do more things possible through staying connected at all times. At least, we can say life is a bit fair now, right?

[OPPO F9 is set to launch in the country on August 15.]
