The long wait is finally over. After almost a year of waiting, audiences will finally get to see Jun Lana’s passion project, “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi” starring Sue Ramirez, Jameson Blake, and Markus Paterson. The film is an official entry to the Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino from August 15-21, 2018.
It is one of the most awaited entries in the festival after its trailer went viral over the internet.
After watching the film during its special preview screening on August 6, 2018 at Gateway Mall Cinema, I couldn’t stop myself from geeking out about how amazing the film is.
So I am giving you 10 Reasons Why “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi” Deserves A Shoutout (*winks* at Jameson Blake).
10. The Unique Story.
The film follows Norma, your typical teenage girl who can’t live without technology. But what happens when she finds out that she has a rare illness?
The film tackles the mysterious EHS syndrome (Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity) as Norma is forced to live away from social media and the internet because of her condition. She has to go offline and start a new life, away from the boy she loves and closer to the boy who loves her.
This story is what caught netizens’ attention upon the release of the film’s trailer, making everyone curious about the movie.
9. The Lessons about Love.
In the film, Norma is frustrated over her situation because she has to live far away from her boyfriend Leo (Markus Paterson). But her mother (Yayo Aguila) kept on telling her that distance and lack of connection shouldn’t be a problem if he really loves her. Just like what her mother says, “Porke walang signal, wala na kayo?”
Also, her grandma (Boots Anson-Roa) helps Norma realize that you don’t need the internet to connect with the one you love just like in the older days when there was no Wi-Fi.
8. Millennials’ View on Social Media.
We get to understand the pros and cons of social media and the internet in the film. Of course, one of the problems brought by the addiction of millennials today with social media is that we are too obsessed with the digital versions of ourselves and sometimes, we forget the “real” us. We forget to live in the moment. Also, a lot of people end up falling for Fake news all over the web and believe everything that they read, hear or see.
But then, there are also positive things about it. Like Norma, we want to post our most unforgettable moments online because we cannot just rely on our memories as these might fade away as we grow older. We want to immortalize those moments when we were happy through the internet.
7. The Film Will Bring Out the Hopeless Romantics in All of Us.
The film also focuses on Aries (Jameson Blake) who is hopelessly in love with his brother’s girlfriend Norma. He immediately comes to her rescue when she needed support to help her get through her situation. And when Norma and Leo break-up, he tries to keep her hopes up by sending her letters with his brother’s name.
Though a lot of people might react and say that it is just pathetic, we can’t blame Aries. Love makes us do some things we never thought we were capable of.
6. The Film’s Twist That Will Definitely Make You #Shookt.
Of course, we don’t want to spoil your viewing pleasure so we won’t say anything about this twist. All I can say is that the crowd went wild with that unexpected turn of events that will make you #shookt.
5. Jun Lana. Period.
From his unforgettable films like Bwakaw, Barber’s Tales, and Die Beautiful, Jun Lana never fails to amaze us. And his latest film, “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi” is no exception. Honestly, it’s one of the best romcoms of the year. Period.
4. Angeli Nicole Sanoy’s Hilarious Moments.
Angeli plays the role of Macha, Aries’ best friend and yes, her quirky and hilarious performance in the film is a must-see. She is the newest best friend ng bayan and her funny banter and jokes will definitely make you laugh out loud.
3. The Acting Debut of Markus Paterson.
Markus is a Filipino-British professional football player from the UK who returned to the Philippines and began a modeling career. He went to join ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Boyband Superstar, and even though he didn’t win, it paved the way for him to be part of this film playing Leo, Norma’s boyfriend and Aries’ brother.
2. Jameson Blake’s Best Performance Yet.
Yes, I am claiming it. I have been following Jameson Blake’s works since his 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten debut and his portrayal of Aries in “Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi” is his best to date. This film cements his status as one of today’s next bright leading men. You won’t be able to resist his charms once he smiles (especially with those dimples!).
The whole crowd inside the cinema during the advance screening even went wild when he whispers the words “Mahal kita” to Sue Ramirez’s character. Then, there is that scene where a tear fell from Jameson’s eye during one of the film’s most heartbreaking moments. His perfectly timed acting in that scene will leave you breathless.
1. Sue Ramirez’s Amazing Portrayal of Norma.
Of course, Sue Ramirez deserves a lot of the credit for portraying the character of Norma. She manages to carry the weight of most of the film with her believable performance. She is also given a chance to showcase her acting prowess in one scene during the final act of the film, proving her capabilities as a dramatic actress. Plus, she shares great chemistry with her co-actors, especially with Jameson Blake. They really make a good pair on screen and every time they’re together, you can feel the palpable chemistry between them.
“Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa WiFi” is showing in cinemas from August 15-21, 2018 as part of the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.
