- From seeding to seeing
- 7-Eleven Day dedicated to environment awareness
Employees and officers of 7-Eleven came together to plant trees at the Marikina Watershed to keep our future bright by working to improve the environment as part of the week-long celebration for 7-Eleven Day, which was on July 11 (7/11).
7-Eleven celebrated 7-Eleven Day by planting 1,550 saplings. The Marikina Watershed is a 26,125-hectare area protected by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources because of its rich biodiversity and its crucial role in mitigating flooding in Metro Manila.
“This is part of our wider effort to operate as a socially-responsible brand while working with partners to mitigate the impact of climate change on our business and the customers we serve daily,” Philippine Seven Corporation (PSC) President & CEO, Jose Victor Paterno said. “We focus on activities that push for environmental awareness, protection, and conservation. We believe that by investing in a greener future for all of our communities, we become a more responsible kapitbahay to every Filipino.”
Tulungan Sa Kabuhayan ng Calawis, Inc. (TSKC) is the chosen beneficiary of 7-Eleven for the tree-planting activity. It is a farmers’ organization based in Brgy. Calawis, Antipolo City that operates in the Mount Purro area of the Marikina Watershed. Through the enhancement of a two-hectare agro-forestry site, particularly planting of fruit-bearing trees, the campaign will thereby provide additional income to farmer beneficiaries in the future.
This is not the first time 7-Eleven dedicated a day to fostering environmental awareness among its employees and customers. From 2006-2009, they have been conducting tree-planting activities in celebration of 7-Eleven Day, where employees would troop to the La Mesa Eco Park to plant around 500 seedlings, contributing more than 1,500 trees in 16 hectares of land in the eco-park.
In 2016, 7-Eleven, Inc. and Seven & i Holdings conducted their first Global Climate Change campaign. During that year, PSC, PhilSeven Foundation Inc. (PFI), PSC’s CSR arm, and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) spearheaded the Go Green Initiative, a program that sustained tree-planting activities to mark 7-Eleven Day.
The tree planting campaign promotes biodiversity in critical areas in the Marikina Watershed. PSC continues to conduct these yearly activities to inspire employees and customers in bringing a visible and positive change in the environment.
