- Philippine blockbuster actress Kim Chiu and Korean sensation Ryan Bang drive away the blues in “Da One That Ghost Away”
- Star Cinema’s latest offering screening outside the Philippines via TFC@theMovies, brings in the scare middle of the year with a new tandem and a shocking twist
As summer heats up the East and looms ahead in the West, ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc. (Star Cinema) provides the great escape via its latest offering “Da One That Ghost Away”
“Da One That Ghost Away”, screening overseas via TFC@theMovies starting April 27, gives audiences a refreshing respite for many reasons and veers away from other movie offerings from many angles.
First, it departs from the usual romance – comedy offering this time of the year. Instead, it brings together the new tandem of Chinita Heartthrob Kim Chiu and Korean sensation Ryan Bang in a movie where they start of as friends fighting a common enemy — spooks.
“Da One That Ghost Away” is a departure from the romance department as it brings a scare fest this season.
But while “Da One That Goes Away” is no romance flick, Bang admits that in real life, he has an admiration for Chiu. Bang says that even if Chiu does not speak, he understands her. Like in the film where ghosts escape them time and again, the Korean actor admits that in real life, “Kim is my ‘the one that got away’”. On the receiving end, Chiu herself has a newly found admiration for Bang. “It’s already a given that he is funny. However, in this movie, you can see his passion. He is so good in ad-lib and Director Tony Reyes and I find ourselves saying ‘that was not in the script.’” As early as now, new fans have come out and have already developed a moniker for the two – ChiKo for Chinese – Korean.
Second, “Da Ghost That Got Away” lets Chiu portrays a different side of a character in a horror movie with a dose of comedy, as a young woman Carmel Monseratt who takes the helm of their family business P.E.K.T.U.S. or Paranormal Extraction and Kulam. Try Us and tries indeed to resuscitate it from bankruptcy.
Third, the Star Cinema offering brings back comic director Tony Y. Reyes in a movie that will also provide a surprising reveal in the end that will make viewers believe in themselves.
Reyes reveals he was amazed at the cast. “I didn’t know they were hilarious. Our camaraderie was felt even after each take. We would just find ourselves laughing endlessly,” he shares.
Helping Chiu and Bang drive away the boredom and bring in the laughs are “Ang Probinsyano’s” Pepe Herrera in his first major movie role, Star Cinema’s “Loving in Tandem” team of Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, leading man Enzo Pineda, Lassy Marquez, Moi Bien, Matet De Leon, Cai Cortez, Chokoleit, and veteran actresses Marissa Delgado and Odette Khan.
“Da One That Ghost Away” written by Danna Mariquit, Daisy Cayanan, and Dip Mariposque, screens outside the Philippines in the following countries and at these dates: April 27 in the U.S. and Canada; April 29 in Hong Kong; May 3 in Papua New Guinea and Brunei; May 4 in Saipan; and May 6 in Singapore.
