- Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysee fight will happen on July 15
- The event will be held at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur
- Pacman responded to Coach Mario Arano telling him he’s not yet done
Argentinian, Lucas Matthysee, and Filipino Champ and pride, Manny Pacquiao, faced off in a press conference in City of Dreams – Manila, Philippines, on April 18, 2018.
As a new boxing promoter, Pacquiao welcomed first-time Manila visitors Matthysse and his team led by Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez and Matthysse’s manager Mario Arano in a lavish and eventful press conference.
The two fighters are excited to see each other in the ring this upcoming July 15, 2018 (July 14 in the US) at the 16,000-seater Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. They will be fighting for the World Welterweight Championship Belt.
Manny Pacquiao is fighting to defend his legacy and prove that he is still the world’s strongest boxer despite his age. Lucas Matthysse, on the other hand, is fighting for the glory of his dream to defeat one of our generation’s best boxer.
During the press conference, Manny Pacquaio shared that he does not take Matthysee very lightly. Just by looking at his record only means that Pacman must do his best to train hard to fight such an aggressive opponent. He also admitted that this will be a great challenge since their fighting style is almost similar.
Mattysse also shared why he decided to fight the World Champ. He currently holds one world title, and he immediately went to face the best. He explained that he looks up to Manny Pacquiao and it is his dream to fight Manny and prove his worth as a boxer.
Meanwhile, Matthysee’s coach, Mario Arano, declared that Manny is no longer the same fighter he was. And he declared, “This is Lucas’ time. Manny Pacquiao’s time is done.”
Manny can’t help but respond to this undermining. He said, “I’m not done. That’s what I’m trying to prove. That my boxing career is not yet over.”
Moreover, it looks like we won’t be seeing Freddie Roach on Pacman’s side this time. His expected head coach for this fight will be his long-time trainer and friend Restituto “Buboy” Fernandez. But, Manny explained that he is not closing doors to the old coach. He is just giving “Buboy” a chance to prove that he is a great coach too.
