- Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil open up about Bagani‘s casting issues.
- People argued about the show casting actors with mixed blood or Euro-centric features.
- Liza noted that having foreign blood doesn’t make them less of a Filipino.
Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil were in hot water due to some people questioning their skin color and nationality in ABS-CBN’s epicserye, Bagani. Before the show’s pilot episode, some Netizens argued about the show casting actors with foreign blood or Euro-centric features. In the recent thanksgiving press conference held on Thursday, March 15, Liza emphasized that having foreign blood doesn’t make them less of a Filipino.
In the said conference, Liza stated:
“Well, para sa amin po, siguro sa tingin po namin, kami, even if we’re half-Filipino. It doesn’t make us any less of a Filipino. And lahat naman po tayo, may sariling opinyon and para sa amin, Pinoy po kami. Kung para sa kanila, hindi po, we respect their opinion as well. But we just want to let them know as well na we feel and we are proud to be Filipinos.”
Meanwhile, Enrique added that he believes that educating people will remain as Bagani‘s goal.
“Just the same as her. We just want to give a good show that the people would like to watch and enjoy. And to teach some lessons about the history of the Philippines and hanggang doon lang po kami, eh. We just want to give you a good show and just pour our hearts at all of them. To all the Filipinos watching. So that’s what we wanted to do.”
During the said press conference, Enrique declared: “This must be the best show na nagawa namin dito sa ABS-CBN.”
He explained that ABS-CBN rarely airs epicseryes.
“Kung makita niyo naman, I think it’s very fresh sa atin po lahat. Because ABS hasn’t really come up with really, really epic shows of this proportion. And it’s a good thing na we’re starting. So congratulations sa ABS-CBN and sa ating lahat.”
Liza also shared her sentiments on watching the pilot episode. She acknowledged that they don’t really see what the graphics will do with the taped scenes.
“Noong pinapanuod po namin yung pilot episode, sobrang kinikilabutan po kaming lahat. Parang naramdaman po namin na lahat ng hardwork namin, nag pay-off. And it was just different kasi habang shinu-shoot namin. Hindi naman namin nakikita visually because there are a lot of graphics. Pero noong napanood namin, napakaganda and jaw-dropping talaga para sa amin.”
