Aspiring and professional actors alike have the rare opportunity this summer to train under one of the country’s most sought-after acting coaches, Direk Rahyan Carlos, as MQuest Artists Agency (MQAA), the talent arm of TV5, officially launches its acting workshops.
Carlos, the only Filipino authorized to teach the world-renowned Ivana Chubbuck Technique, will personally conduct the sessions. He trained under Chubbuck herself—the same elite Hollywood coach who has mentored A-list stars like Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt, and Halle Berry.
Participants will not only get intensive training in the Chubbuck method—a technique rooted in using emotional pain as a tool for powerful performances—but will also have a chance to be considered for the MQAA Artists Registry, a stepping stone for future opportunities in mainstream and digital entertainment.
In-person registration takes place on April 12 and 13, 2025, at the 10th Floor, Launchpad Building, Reliance Street, Mandaluyong City. Workshops begin in May. Interested applicants may contact MQAA through Instagram and Facebook (@mqaaworkshops) or email mqaa.training@gmail.com.
Carlos, whose extensive directorial credits include ‘Shake, Rattle & Roll 8’, ‘Pamahiin’, ‘Ringgo: The Dog Shooter’, ‘Florinda’, ‘Lovespell’, and ‘Regal Shocker’, has dedicated the past 25 years to molding artists into emotionally grounded and deeply authentic performers.
In a recent press conference, Carlos offered a glimpse into his philosophy as a coach: “I didn’t know how to process it at first. Imagine hearing different kinds of emotional baggage from artists every day. Sometimes they share in class, sometimes they whisper it privately,” he said.
“But I learned how to let it go, because we only use it for the scene. In our class, we respect one another. This is our safe space. For four hours, no cellphones. During breaks, that’s the only time they can use them.”
Carlos emphasized that discipline, empathy, and emotional truth form the backbone of his teaching.
“There’s discipline. And now, even among the actors, they support each other by not gossiping. We just want to improve their craft. You’ll never go wrong when you use pain as fuel to win.”
Reflecting on his training with Ivana Chubbuck, Carlos added: “That’s when I understood Ivana. Filipinos have so much pain—especially artists. But there’s beauty in that pain. Now, with all the vertical dramas out there, my actors are landing roles and being noticed by directors.”
These workshops offer more than just technique. They provide transformation. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned actor seeking deeper mastery, this is your chance to learn from one of the best in the industry.
“We’re not competing with other schools. We’re open to all artists who want to train with us,” Carlos said.
“When actors are humbled and willing to be trained, then magic happens.”
Spaces are limited. Don’t miss the opportunity to develop your craft with Direk Rahyan Carlos and take your acting to the next level.
