Continuing the celebration of their 20th anniversary, acclaimed Japanese rock band RADWIMPS keeps the momentum going with the release of their brand new single, “Tamamono”, a theme song of the NHK Drama Serial ‘Anpan’. 
‘Anpan’ is a story based on the lives of Yanase Takashi, the creator of ‘Anpanman’, a famous Japanese anime character, and his wife Nobu. It depicts how two individuals overcame countless hardships to create ‘Anpanman’, embodying the idea of ‘justice that never wavers’ and inspiring love and courage that make the joy of living well up from within. ‘Anpan’ is available worldwide for fans to watch on NHK World Premium.
Yojiro Noda expresses, “We are honored to have this opportunity to contribute the theme song for ‘Anpan’. Since we received the offer last spring, I read the script, which arrived little by little like letters and the song slowly took its shape. As I read, I grew to love Nobu, Takashi and each of the characters in the drama, and at times I became helplessly bitter. The more I fell in love with them, the more I got lost as to what kind of music would be a perfect fit. My goal was to write a song 1) that can give you the strength to crawl out from under the covers in the morning, 2) has a fresh vitality like Nobu, and 3) that is challenging and adventurous. We are excited to see how the song grows as the drama unfolds for the next 6 months”.
Bringing that sentiment to life visually, the colorful and dynamic opening sequence—now available on YouTube—offers a glimpse into the emotional landscape of the drama. Directed by Ray Wakui and powered by vivid VFX, the sequence follows Mio Imada’s character as she sprints through the chaos of today’s world, setting the tone for the heartfelt journey ahead.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary, the band will be releasing their past albums on vinyl. Kicking things off with ‘Batsu To Maru To Tsumi To’ from 2013 which will drop on May 7th, 2025, a new title will drop each month through September.
