Sparkle artist and ‘Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition’ housemate Dustin Yu finally addressed the brewing tension between him and fellow housemate AZ Martinez during the March 30 episode, where he clarified his reasons for keeping his distance.
The root of the issue? A previous confession from AZ admitting she once had a crush on Dustin and even dreamed about him—despite having a boyfriend, Larkin Castor, outside the house. This led to friendly teasing from fellow housemates, which Dustin admitted made him uncomfortable.
“Ako, umiiwas lang ako sa asar-asar,” Dustin said candidly. “Hindi naman ako nag-a-assume or anything, pero iwas lang ako kasi kilala ko si Larkin. Kaibigan ko siya.”
He explained that with their interactions being aired on national TV, he also considered how things might appear to his friend watching from outside: “Siyempre, kapag napapanood niya ’to, anong masasabi niya?”
AZ responded that she initially just went along with the jokes, not expecting it to become an issue: “Nakiki-ride lang ako sa pang-aasar ng mga housemates. Pero nung naramdaman kong hindi ka komportable, umatras na ako.”
Dustin appreciated the clarification but pointed out how teasing—even when meant in jest—could be misinterpreted by others. “Kahit wala kang malisya, kapag narinig ng ibang tao, pwede silang magkaroon ng ibang interpretasyon.”
He did, however, lighten the mood with a subtle jab: “Eh ikaw naman kasi kung ano-anong pinagsasabi mo,” he said with a laugh, to which AZ replied, “My fault, my fault,” apologetically.
In the end, Dustin brought the conversation back to maturity and moving forward. “At least, kung napapanood naman ito ni Larkin, alam niya na miss mo na siya. Minsan sa life, ang kailangan nating isipin ay ang present.”
Earlier in the season, Dustin won netizen approval when he respectfully backed out of a chemistry test with AZ, citing “bro code” as his reason. The gesture didn’t go unnoticed—Larkin later posted his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter): “Love you bro, biggest respects to you. Appreciate you.”
Dustin, dubbed ‘The Chinito Boss-Sikap ng Quezon City,’ continues to be seen as a green flag in the house, while AZ, ‘Ang Miss Sunuring Daughter ng Cebu,’ maintains her image as a thoughtful and expressive player.
