Director Theodore Boborol has taken to social media to respond to mounting fan dissatisfaction following the announcement of a new project featuring Ang Mutya ng Section E stars Ashtine Olviga and Rabin Angeles in lead roles.

The news has sparked frustration among fans, many of whom had hoped for a follow-up project reuniting Olviga with Andres Mulach, popularly known as the beloved loveteam “AshDres.” Instead, the prospect of the two heading to separate projects has left some followers of the digital series upset, with Boborol seemingly bearing the brunt of their ire.
The director’s response comes amid an additional controversy, as some disgruntled fans have threatened to turn to pirate sites to watch the remaining episodes of Ang Mutya ng Section E rather than subscribing to Viva One, citing the platform’s pricey fees.
Addressing a fan’s complaint about the cost of accessing advanced episodes, Boborol wrote, “It’s part of their business. You can always wait for the regular drop naman. Nothing wrong with watching sa regular sked as long as legit platform.” He emphasized that while advanced episodes on Viva One come at a premium, fans can opt for the more affordable regular release schedule instead of resorting to illegal alternatives.
Boborol expressed dismay over the impact of piracy on the industry’s unsung heroes, stating, “The big sharks and the companies will always be there. The big stars will always have their jobs and endorsements. Ang mas kawawa ang maliliit na tao na nagtatrabaho lang naman. Pag napipirata ang work nila, saan ba huhugot ng pera para makagawa ng bago?” He underscored that piracy ultimately harms the hardworking crew behind the scenes more than the major players.
The director also addressed the unexpected backlash he’s faced for speaking out against piracy, saying, “Di ko gets bakit tuwing nagpopost ako, iniisip nyo may pinatatamaan ako? Like it’s a general fact, piracy is wrong! No matter who does it!”.
He pleaded with fans to reconsider their hostility, adding, “Ang concern ko as director is to make sure na maganda ang show at mamahalin nyo ang cast dahil sa pag-ganap nila sa series. I’d like to believe na nagagampanan ko ‘yun kaya ganyan nyo sila kamahal ngayon. Kaya please spare me from your toxicity.”
Boborol shared his deep affection for the show’s lead stars, likening them to his own children, and clarified his position in the production. “…pinahiram lang ako sa AMNSE, kaya it hurts na sa akin pa kayo galit,” he said, noting that he is under Star Magic by ABS-CBN and was only loaned to Viva to direct the series. The statement highlighted his frustration at being the target of fan anger despite his limited control over casting and project decisions.
In response, many fans clarified that their frustration was directed not at Boborol but at Viva One and the management of the show’s stars. Some even expressed gratitude to the director for his work on Ang Mutya ng Section E, signaling a possible easing of tensions between Boborol and the fanbase.
