What was meant to be a joyous occasion turned bittersweet as actor Dennis Padilla and his family expressed heartbreak following the wedding of his daughter, Claudia Barretto, to longtime boyfriend Basti Lorenzo on April 8.
While Dennis attended the ceremony along with his brother, comedian Gene Padilla, and their mother, emotions ran high as the actor was not included in the official wedding entourage—a move that left the family blindsided and visibly hurt.
In since-deleted Instagram posts, Dennis aired his disappointment, stating: “GRABE KAYO!! NABUDOL NYO AKO! FATHER OF THE BRIDE NAGING VISITOR! GALING NYO!”
He followed this with the caption, “Finish ” and added, “Sagad sa buto,” signaling deep emotional pain.
In a video circulating on TikTok, Dennis is seen greeting his new son-in-law Basti at the altar, but notably, he was not the one who walked Claudia down the aisle.
Dennis also reportedly left a blunt comment—“Kapal nyo”—on an Instagram post by daughter Julia Barretto, which has since been deleted as well.
Gene Padilla later took to Facebook to share what happened from their perspective. He said their family arrived early at the church, with their mother waking up as early as 5:00 AM in anticipation.
“Ngayon lang ako nakawitness ng kasal na di part ng program ang ama ng bride,” Gene wrote.
According to him, no one from the organizing team informed them that Dennis wasn’t included in the procession or official program. Instead, they were directed to sit wherever there was space, with Dennis reportedly placed beside the wedding sponsors.
“Napaluha at napaiyak si kuya sa mga nangyari… kaya sabi ko umuwi na tayo after ng simbahan,” Gene continued, adding that their mother also cried.
In his emotional post, Gene addressed Claudia and her siblings—Julia and Leon—calling out what he described as long-standing neglect.
“Ang tagal na panahon na nanunuyo at nahingi ng atensyon ama niyo sa inyo mga anak… Puro kayo karangyaan at kasikatan… Pero pinagkaiba namin sa inyo ay yung puso namin at dignidad na di niyo kaya pantayan.”
He emphasized that Dennis had been trying to mend their relationship for years, and he questioned the morality of excluding him from such a significant event in his daughter’s life.
As of this writing, Claudia, Julia, Leon, and their mother Marjorie Barretto have yet to release any official statement regarding the issue. Meanwhile, Dennis, Gene, and their mother reportedly chose not to attend the wedding reception and instead dined at a nearby restaurant.
The incident has once again shed light on the strained relationship between Dennis and his children with Marjorie Barretto. Though there were signs of reconciliation in past months, this recent event has sparked renewed discussion among fans and observers.
