Kapuso actor Benjamin Alves, nephew of A-list star Piolo Pascual, recently took to Facebook to reminisce about his showbiz roots, sharing a throwback photo from his time as a contestant on the second season of ABS-CBN’s Close Up To Fame in 2005.

Competing under his real name, Vince Saldana, Alves captioned the post, “As a contestant, 2 decades ago…man, how time flies!” reflecting on his 20-year journey in the entertainment industry.
The reality show, a collaboration with a popular toothpaste brand, aimed to discover the next big showbiz pair. Although Alves didn’t clinch the title, he outshone his peers, building a thriving career.
After signing with Viva Artists Agency in 2006, he joined GMA Network in 2012, landing major roles in hit series, including the recent drama Widows’ War. Alves is also set to reprise his role as President Manuel L. Quezon in Jerrold Tarog’s upcoming biopic Quezon, starring alongside Jericho Rosales in the titular role.
The first season of Close Up To Fame produced actress Bangs Garcia, known for starring in various ABS-CBN dramas.
Alves’ nostalgic post resonated with fans, who praised his inspiring rise from a reality show contestant to a prominent Kapuso talent, carving his own path in the industry despite his famous family ties.
