The CinePanalo Film Festival 2025 recognized the best Filipino films in a night filled with tight competition, groundbreaking storytelling, and unforgettable performances.
With over 30 categories awarding outstanding films, actors, and creative teams, the festival highlighted the strength of regional and independent cinema.
A major highlight of the night was the Best Actor (Panalong Aktor) award, which resulted in a tie between Khalil Ramos (Olsen’s Day) and JP Larroder (Tigkiliwi). Ramos, who starred in the comedy-drama about personal rediscovery, thanked the filmmakers and his co-stars, emphasizing how the role deepened his perspective on storytelling.
Meanwhile, veteran actress Ruby Ruiz added another prestigious accolade to her career, winning Best Actress (Panalong Aktres) for her performance in Tigkiliwi. Ruiz’s son accepted the award on her behalf, sharing how the film’s authentic storytelling in the Hiligaynon language was a challenge that she gladly embraced.
The Best Cinematography (Panalo sa Cinematography) award was another closely contested category, ultimately resulting in a tie between Journeyman (Dominic Lat) and Olsen’s Day (Kara Moreno). Festival director Chris Cahilig revealed: “Grabe ang deliberation dito. Kulang na lang magsabunutan ang jury sa dami ng magagaling na entries!”
Meanwhile, the Best Director (Panalong Direktor) award went to JP Habac for Olsen’s Day, marking another victory for the well-received film.
One of the biggest surprises of the night was ‘Journeyman’, which bagged six awards, including: International Jury Prize, Best Film Poster, Best Cinematography (tie), MTRCB Responsible Filmmaking Award, Best Brand Intrusion and Puregold Always Panalo Film (tie with Fleeting).
The film, starring JC Santos, tells the story of a professional boxing “loser” and his personal battles outside the ring. It resonated with audiences and critics, earning a special recognition from international jurors.

With a diverse lineup of films ranging from Hiligaynon dramas to innovative student shorts, CinePanalo 2025 successfully showcased the evolving landscape of Philippine cinema.
