French-Filipino businessman Christophe Bariou has condemned a disturbing rape threat directed at his girlfriend, actress Nadine Lustre, after she expressed her opinion online.
The controversy arose after Nadine posted photos of herself and Christophe on Instagram. While the post was filled with supportive comments from fans, one particularly violent remark from a user with the handle @juncarzcruz caught the actress’s attention.
The basher wrote: “Sana ma-rp* ka ng adik.”*
Shocked by the comment, Nadine took to Instagram Stories to call out the user, sharing a screenshot of the offensive remark with the caption: “One of the many that did not pass the vibe check.”
Christophe, who has largely stayed away from controversies, also reacted strongly to the hate comment.
Resharing the screenshot on his Instagram Stories, he questioned the culture of online abuse, stating: “Imagine if your girlfriend, wife, sister, mother, or daughter were publicly threatened with rape simply for expressing her opinion.”
The post immediately gained traction, with Nadine’s supporters rallying behind her and condemning the offensive comment. Following the backlash, the basher’s comment was deleted, though it had already been widely circulated online.
Many of Nadine’s fans speculated that the basher was a supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, as the attack came shortly after Nadine posted a placard appearing to support Duterte’s arrest.
Since then, the actress has faced an onslaught of online criticism, believed to be from Duterte’s supporters, with many using harsh and derogatory language against her.
