Atasha Muhlach is proving that she’s ready to step out of her comfort zone and take on the challenges of acting, as she officially lands her first lead role in the Filipino adaptation of ‘Bad Genius.’
The young actress, a rising star in her own right, admitted that while the opportunity was overwhelming, she is fully committed to taking risks and giving her best performance.
During the cast reveal and story conference held at Viva Café, Atasha shared that taking on such a major project came with both excitement and anxiety.
“I’m nervous because this is a big role, but at the end of the day, I’m game to take the risk. I just want to give my best, try my best, and not take this for granted.”
Playing Lin, a brilliant but morally conflicted student who builds an underground exam-cheating empire, Atasha acknowledges the weight of portraying a complex lead character—especially in an adaptation of a globally acclaimed Thai film and series.
“I knew that accepting this role meant I had to give 100 percent. There’s no room for half-measures. It’s a challenge, but it’s one I’m embracing.”
Director Derick Cabrido revealed that Atasha took a full week before officially accepting the role, making the production team anxious.
“We were grateful when Atasha finally said yes. We knew it wasn’t an easy decision for her. But the fact that she took time to think about it shows her dedication and maturity as an artist.”
Given that ‘Bad Genius’ has seen multiple successful adaptations—including a Bollywood version (‘Farrey’) in 2023 and an American remake released last year—expectations are high for this Filipino version. Cabrido assured that the production is doing everything to match audience anticipation.
Despite being a newcomer to the industry, Atasha has a strong support system behind her, including her twin brother, Andres Muhlach, and their parents, Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez.
“There’s no competition between me and Andres. We’re best friends, and I’m so proud of him. His success inspires me, and I’m just excited that we’re both getting to do something we love.”
Charlene took to Instagram to express her excitement: “So happy to see your dreams come true. I can’t wait to watch you transform into Lin!”
Aga, a proud father, also shared his thoughts: “My dear Atasha, I’m so happy for you and Andres. Just keep working hard and stay grounded. We’re all behind you.”
Atasha will be starring alongside some of the industry’s promising young actors and respected veterans: Jairus Aquino as Bank, Gab Lagman as Pat, Hyacinth Callado as Grace, Ruffa Gutierrez as Principal Perez, Romnick Sarmenta and Yayo Aguila as Lin’s parents, Irma Adlawan, Joko Diaz, Keagan De Jesus, Alex Payan, and Gold Aceron.
With her determined mindset, willingness to take risks, and a talented ensemble cast, Atasha is gearing up to prove herself in her first-ever lead role.
“This is something I’ve wanted since I was a kid, and now that my dream is coming true, I don’t want to waste it. I want to give my best and just enjoy every moment.”
‘Bad Genius: The Series’ is set to premiere exclusively on Viva One.
