Kapuso comedian and TV host Super Tekla has addressed ongoing speculations about his gender identity, clarifying that despite frequently dressing up as a woman for performances, he identifies as a straight man.
In a recent interview, ‘The Boobay and Tekla Show’ host shared that some people still question his identity due to his on-screen persona and comedic routines.
“May mga mangilan-ngilan pa ring nagdududa,” Tekla said, acknowledging that some viewers remain curious about his real-life gender identity.
He recounted how earlier in his career, he presented himself in a more traditionally masculine way but felt it wasn’t as effective in the entertainment industry.
“Dati kasi, para akong lalaki na mag-aayos ng aircon,” he joked. “Pero nung nag-dress up ako ng girl, lumabas ‘yung character ko, so in-embrace ko ‘yun. Pero I’m totally a guy, straight.”
Tekla emphasized that his drag-like performances were a strategic move to establish a distinct comedic identity, rather than a reflection of his personal life.
The comedian noted that adapting to industry demands helped him stand out, acknowledging that entertainment often requires creativity and versatility.
“Ina-adapt ko na lang siya, kasi kailangan mong maging madiskarte rito… You have to build your character, you have to build your own identity na ikaw ‘yan,” he explained.
Despite embracing a more flamboyant image for his career, Tekla maintains a traditional masculine presentation in his personal life.
Outside of showbiz, Tekla revealed that he is a devoted father to three children, including his teenage daughter Aira.
“Sa tunay na buhay, lalaki ako. Tatay ako ng tatlong anak,” he stated, further reinforcing his heterosexual identity.
Super Tekla first gained prominence as a stand-up comedian before becoming a household name on television, particularly as the co-host of ‘The Boobay and Tekla Show’ on GMA Network. His ability to embrace different personas has contributed to his comedic success and wide appeal.
Despite ongoing speculation, Tekla remains unfazed, choosing to focus on his career and his role as a father.
“Nagpapatawa lang ako, ‘yun ang trabaho ko. Pero sa personal na buhay, alam ko kung sino ako,” he concluded.
