Kapuso action star Ruru Madrid has finally addressed the viral reaction of Sue Ramirez and Cristine Reyes during the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal, where he was announced as the Best Supporting Actor awardee.
During the awards night, netizens noticed that Sue and Cristine appeared surprised and slightly disappointed upon reading Ruru’s name. Cristine simply said “Okay,” while Sue momentarily looked toward the audience before continuing with the announcement.
Their reaction sparked online discussions, with some netizens speculating that they were expecting Sid Lucero to win since he had two nominations in the category for his performances in ‘The Kingdom’ and ‘Topakk’.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Ruru Madrid clarified that he does not take offense at how the two actresses reacted, saying he understands that it was an honest and natural response to the announcement.
Ruru emphasized that he holds no resentment toward Sue and Cristine and does not believe their reaction was meant to undermine his win.
Winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Green Bones’ is a major milestone for Ruru, as this is his first-ever film acting award.
“Ibang-iba ‘yung pakiramdam, e.
In ‘Green Bones’, Ruru plays Xavier Gonzaga, a prison guard entangled in a web of crime and redemption. He admitted that while filming, he was not thinking about winning an award, but was solely focused on delivering a compelling performance.
“So for me, no hard feelings. Kumbaga for me, as long as masaya po tayong lahat at nakita ko itong award na ito, parang wala pong problema talaga.”
Ruru’s MMFF win cements his status as one of the most promising actors of his generation.
