The highly anticipated Filipino horror-sci-fi film ‘Lisik Origin Point’ is gearing up to hit theaters nationwide on February 19, 2025, distributed by PinoyFlix.
Produced by Domniel International Films Production, the film tells the gripping story of a group of students trapped in their school after a deadly outbreak turns their classmates into terrifying creatures.
Behind the scenes is executive producer Dominic Orjalo, whose passion for science fiction and storytelling drove him to take on this ambitious project despite production hurdles. During a recent press conference, Orjalo shared that ‘Lisik Origin Point’ is inspired by his admiration for blockbuster zombie films like ‘World War Z.’
“I’m a huge fan of sci-fi films, but I wanted something with a unique twist. It was a dream to bring this to life,” Orjalo revealed, adding that he invested ₱10 million in the film’s production.
The journey to complete the film was not without challenges. Orjalo initially struggled to find the right director, going through several who failed to meet his vision. That changed when he partnered with John Renz Cahilig, a young filmmaker with expertise in visual effects.
“John was able to understand and execute what I had envisioned,” Orjalo said. Cahilig, who also wrote the screenplay, described the film’s premise: “The story follows students whose lives are disrupted by a mysterious infection inside their school. It’s a survival tale filled with suspense and action,” he explained.
Opting for a fresh approach, ‘Lisik Origin Point’ features a cast of relatively unknown actors, including Nika De Guzman, Grace Rosas Tayo, and Jeremiah Allera. Cahilig emphasized that the decision to cast newcomers was based on their ability to deliver convincing performances.
“We prioritized authenticity over star power,” Cahilig noted. “These actors brought their characters to life in ways that exceeded our expectations.”
The film also includes a special appearance by veteran actor Ramon Christopher and rising talents such as Jossah Mae Sison, Rain Mirasol, Joshua Cantuba, and Revers Quilario.
The teaser for ‘Lisik Origin Point’ has garnered comparisons to the popular Korean zombie series ‘All of Us Are Dead,’ but Cahilig quickly clarified that their film offers a unique perspective. “It’s an original story,” he stressed. “While comparisons are flattering, our narrative focuses on themes of survival and resilience that are deeply rooted in Filipino culture.”
Orjalo believes that the film’s suspenseful theme will appeal to younger audiences. “Horror movies create an exciting atmosphere in theaters. It’s the kind of experience where friends can come together and share scares,” he said.
As a school owner, Orjalo also saw ‘Lisik Origin Point’ as an opportunity to showcase young talent. “This film serves as a platform for new actors to develop their skills and gain exposure in the entertainment industry,” he added.
With its mix of horror, action, and compelling performances, ‘Lisik Origin Point’ aims to redefine Filipino zombie thrillers. The film has already sparked curiosity among fans of the genre, who are eager to see how it compares to international hits.
Orjalo and Cahilig remain hopeful that Filipino moviegoers will show their support. “We poured our hearts into this project. Now, it’s time for the audience to experience it for themselves,” Orjalo concluded.
